We own several of Ed Emberley's drawing books and my sons love them all. My kids draw non-stop. Seriously, from sun up to sun down they are drawing and doodling their way through reams of paper. These books have helped them hone their ability to transmit the ideas from their imaginations onto the blank page with greater confidence. The ability to see that even what appear to be complicated drawings are in fact such a collection of lines and dots has improved their mark making and, therefore, the clarity of their drawings. These books are fun and the images children are guided through creating are always fun. My boys love all things spooky so the Halloween book has proved to be perfect for them. Highly recommended for all small budding artists!

Excerpts from the Big Orange Book 6 Mar 2001
By Blake Watson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
OK, I'm a big fan of Emberly, as should be apparent to anyone who's read any of my other reviews, but the salient detail about this book was left out of the other reviews: It consists entirely and only of excerpts from the Big Orange books. You don't really need this if you have the Orange book.

Perhaps worse is that it's not even =all= the Halloween material from the Big Orange book, so even if you wanted to get it because your kids were fighting over who got to use the orange book, this may not help. It contains none of the monsters from the green or purple books, and despite the color of the cover, there are no red pictures. Just orange.

This might be a good book to introduce someone to Emberly's work, though around Halloween, being cheap.

Ed Emberley books are the best! 5 Aug 2011
By Suezuki - Published on Amazon.com

I grew up using Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Animals. I somehow managed to keep it until my first child was born (it was my favorite childhood book), but without supervision, it was destroyed/lost/gone. When my second child turned 4, I started looking for a replacement and was thrilled to see all the different Ed Emberley books available now! These books take you shape by shape through the drawing. Each drawing is short and simple, keeping your child's attention and giving them a great result without discouraging extra detail. I recommend these books to anyone with pre-schoolers, they're awesome!

get your little artist started! 7 Jun 2011
By Lazy Daisy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ed Emberley books are excellent for the little artist who wants perfection before picking up a crayon. i have three boys and each of them can create the finished image. sometimes, they are dead on and other times, they have gone there and altered that. in all cases, they are very proud to reproduce a printed image by a Real Artist and at the same time, they learn proportions and methods for attaining the final image. great book for any person. i use it for Halloween gift bags every year (as in i follow the directions and draw these guys on bags for our guests.) fun for all ages!
