5.0 out of 5 stars great book 26 Feb 2003
By R Jones
i have read quite a few books about elvis if you are looking for a book that tells bad things about him this is not the book for you, but if you want to see him at his best then buy this book because the pictures & there are at least 1 to 3 on each page & i must say they are top class as the book is named there are loads of unseen pictures right from when he was young & right up to his death.the pictures are split into 6 chapters. You will see pictures from how it all started, The army, the movies, the stars, the concerts,& his family. This is a good printed hardback with over 380 pages with some of the pictures 9 x7 inches & once you get to the end you will start again because i did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hailey's Comet 26 Dec 2011
By Dr. Delvis Memphistopheles TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Man from the deep South, a land that still glorified in its past, suddenly invented the future in the 1950's. Mixing Coffee and Cream, new concoction, Elvis created a hybrid elixir, a speed of sound that changed the way the world was viewed. A new form of intoxication was blasted into teenage minds based on the primal throb of teenagerdom coupled to a sudden rush of mom's diet pills.

This book documents the pictures of the man, as he ascended the rock and roll rungs to his Gracelands heaven, from the slim Greek rockabilly God to the white jump suited parody, belting out his girth to Viva Las Vegas, whilst also capturing his valiant kitsch film period.

In between 1960 and 68 Elvis went missing, and rock and roll became pastiche, as beards took over from the clean cut gods of yore. The 68 comeback allowed him to parade in his black leather suit, also included here, a mean brooding Elvis was born. Plenty of photos of the King cavorting with his many fabled stable of female friends, backed by the Memphis Mafia, looking tanned and more native American than Anglo-Irish stock, Elvis still carries a currency.

Heard all the negatives about his drug use, his need to meet Nixon, fight drugs and the Beatles, a picture of the two, the King and the President is included here. I understand people speak about his gradual descent into pronounced psychological problems, but in between the 50's and the rise of the Beatles he lit up the cosmos with tinsel and glamour. These pictures document that brief arc when he showed there was another door to walk through, other than the mundane back breaking, soul destroying vista of work, marrriage and mortgage. This was the man who weaved a world on the back of Hailey's Comets.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice Book shame about the service 28 July 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
We bought this book for a graduation gift for my daughter's teacher as she is an avid Elivs fan. When we placed the order we stressed that we needed it by a particular date so that we could present it to her at a special leaving party. Despite making this request we received a generic email about delivery dates and no attempt whatsoever from the seller to assure us that the book might be sent out promptly - or even by First Class - and I was prepared to pay more to have it delivered in time. The book came literally the day of the presentation. Much to our disappointment it had a massive tear along the front of the dust jacket, but because we had no time to send it back we were forced to sellotape the rip and give it to the recipient as it was - which was basically like a second hand book in a shabby state. Although we received an email apology in response to our complaint we were asked to return the book or send photos of the damage in order for it to be 'investigated'. Sadly we had already passed the gift on without photographing it as we did not have time, nor did we think it would be the only way we would get any refund.
We have had no further communication from this seller and no refund or even partial refund. We've given the seller plenty of opportunities to do the honourable thing before we had to resort to poor reviewing them but they've given us no choice.

We are honest customers who have been short changed, but obviously our word is not good enough, we are extremely disappointed to say the least.
