Elvis - The Last 24 Hours [DVD]Plus Cd by Jordinaires and Johnny EarleI bought this DVD purely on the strength of seeing and hearing for the first time, Elvis's entourage speaking (and quite candidly at times) about the events leading up to and beyond, the circumstances of what happened to Elvis on that bleak and fateful day on the 16th of August, 1977. So on that score and with some very minor reservations, I do have to say that all things considered, I wasn't too disappointed at all.
However; what did not impress me one bit, was the constant and annoying 'musical interjections' during the main interview segments, by an Elvis impersonator and his tribute band - "Johnny Earle and the Jordinaires" (who are probably okay after a good few pints on a Saturday night down at the local working-men's club) and who were no doubt, emboldened by the fact that the sound-alike Elvis: (Johnny Earle) only by artful sound-engineering and then by skillful editing; HIS singing voice would then be virtually indistinguishable from Elvis's; and all of this being achieved by cleverly interweaving Earle's vocal tracks into the finished DVD's master-editing process!
How cunning is that?
My major disappointment on discovering that I had been well and truly musically 'duped' so to speak, was entirely my own fault. If I had read the early warning signs AND had taken a bit more notice of the miss-spelling of the real named "Jord-*a*-naires" with the faked name on THIS album's "Jord-*i*-naires" and then going on You Tube to find performances by Johnny Earle beforehand, I would have then decided if I had wanted to continue with this purchase or not, but I did it the wrong way round. In my blind enthusiasm, I placed my order first then did the research! ... Please, don't make the same mistake ... On a lighter note however; after only ONE play, (and that was MORE than enough) the accompanying CD 'flew' rather enthusiastically, but at least vertically - straight into my waiting dustbin!
