Shot in 2009 at the storied Harlem's Apollo Theater and Toronto's Masonic Temple, Costello and his band The Imposters wow their audience with jam sessions in between Costello's colorful and creative discussions.
The two-disc sets feature all seven episodes of the second season of the show, plus over one hour of bonus features. Viewers will share in the passion of seven intriguing episodes of chords and conversation with superstar singers and songwriters, including: Bono and The Edge Of U2, Bruce Springsteen, Neko Case, Sheryl Crow, Ron Sexsmith, Jesse Winchester, Nick Lowe, Richard Thompson, Allen Toussaint, Levon Helm, Mary-Louise Parker, John Prine, Lyle Lovett, and Ray Lamontagne.
Bonus features include: the behind-the-scenes documentary Spectacle: Elvis Costello With...Inside Notes hosted by co-Executive Producer David Furnish and four bonus songs from Elvis & The Imposters and guests not seen in the original broadcast versions.

Format:DVD
I didn't quite know what to make of this at first - the wacky musical introductions, Elvis Costello's slightly strange accent, but 10 minutes in to the first episode I saw I was hooked. Intelligent, fun, great guests - a happy audience, in the studio and at home, I'm sure. I can even forgive the excruciating faces pulled by Elvis's adoring interviewer in the episode he is asked about his own music. It doesn't matter, this is a terrific music programme. Loved the banter and chat with Nick Lowe. Elvis's live versions of some of his old songs are far better - to my mind. I wasn't familiar with the song the Town Cryer, but after hearing the live version of it I checked it out on Imperial Bedroom and much prefer the live version. For me, Elvis's voice has got better with age. Whether you agree with that or not doesn't matter, any music lover will be delighted by this show. How do I get a ticket for the next season?

I didn't think the second series of this remarkable TV series could beat the first for pure entertainment, but despite that box having 6 discs and this one only 2, the series really gets into its stride this time round, and Elvis surpasses his easy going but hysterical presentation style, to the extent that if Jools Holland ever retries Elvis would make a perfect replacement . This set warrants numerous repeat plays and for me the best episode is the one which features Nick Lowe, Richard Thompson, Alan Toussaint and The Band's Levon Helm doing what they all do best. Priceless.

If you think the "Song" is more important than the "Singer" then this series is for you. Like "Spectacle Season 1" the 7 shows in "Season 2" all hit the inform, educate and entertain buttons. I have been a music fan/follower for almost 50 years, before The Beatles, and I have not seen a better TV music series than this. If you want to know how U2 and Springsteen songs are written and produced take a risk and buy "Spectacle" you will not regret it.
