The Elton John Scrapbook, 6 Aug 2002
This review is from: The Elton John Scrapbook (Mass Market Paperback)
The long awaited Elton John Scrapbook by Mary Anne Cassata is well worth the wait. Unlike many of the books about Elton John this, as the name implies is in the format of a scrapbook, in other words a montage of Elton John's life and career.
The colourful, glossy soft backed book has a cover just asking you to open it. Once open, the book is full of facts, information, photographs and other illustrative material. It is divided into fourteen chapters, which are often divided into subsections, covering many facets of Elton's life.
Particularly noteable chapters or sections of the book are as follows :-
Chpt 1. Elton John : A (Piano) Man For All Seasons includes an excellent section entitled Stats 'N' Facts which is basic Elton information at a glance.
Chpt 3. Superstar of the Seventies includes a section about Yellow Brick Road and interesting lists of Top Ten Songs and Albums of the Seventies.
Chpt 4. Songwriting Partnerships is basically about Elton and Bernie Taupin and includes some well researched facts about Bernie including a discography.
Chpt 5. Clothes make the Man including his eyewear.
Chpt 7. Elton in the Seventies including activities as the Freddie Mercury Concert for Life, Candle in the Wind 1997, Aida and the launching of The Aids Foundation.
Chpt 9. For the Record, is a long chapter for this book, which chronologically gives information about all the albums released, including the recent Songs From The West Coast.
Chpt 10. Scraps - What others say about Elton, an interesting section.
Chpt 11. Millenium Man, Elton 2000 onwards, including The Road to Eldorado and The Chorus of Light, followed by a frank section entitled Elton Speaks.
Chpt 12. Fascinating facts, just as the title says fascinating if trivial at times, but fun.
Chpt 13. Ultimate Elton John Pop Trivia Quiz, I would defy the most dedicated fan to answer all the questions correctly, but it certainly sets you thinking.
This very well researched, easy reading book is well presented, informative and most enjoyable. Whether the reader is an Elton John fan or not, this gives a wide insight into Elton and is well worth reading.
