Book Description

A note from the author:
Ever since my third stroke, I have been driven by the need to demonstrate just what I can produce from my severely damaged brain. Therefore, I make this contract with you, my potential reader, in that every word you see in my books has been written by me, edited and proofread by me and honed by me to produce my best, and not my best as ‘improved’, ‘altered’, or ‘polished’ by anyone else.

I do not participate in arranged, solicited or purchased review schemes, so any review below is from a genuine reader.

About this Book.

This novel is part of a series. In order to follow the sometimes complex emotional interactions involving the principal characters, the author recommends these novels be read in series order.
"Who Else is There?" is preceded by "For All Eternity" and followed by "Suffer Little Children"

Detective Superintendent Malcolm Willoughby could retire with a clean sheet if only he could get a conviction for a ten year old unsolved murder. A fresh appeal for witnesses coincides with an almost identical attack, but this time, detectives see a connection – Could the killer be one of their own?

Ask yourself, if you can’t trust the police, Who Else is There?

John Collett is angrier than ever when lifelong friend and fellow policeman Mike Newman decides to call an end to his disastrous marriage, especially as Mike intends to move in with an attractive policewoman, Sandra. Mike survives an attempt to kill him but the blow has caused a stroke and left him with brain damage. Within days, his life is thrown into turmoil as his wife disappears and he loses contact with his children.

In his absence, corruption and evil sweeps through Mike’s former police station like a plague. Police officers have become the criminals.

Ask yourself, if you can’t trust the police, Who Else is There?

And who is left to stop them?
Could it be the half-bodied, half-brained Mike Newman? But Mike has another problem to deal with – his damaged brain obscures the clues by presenting him with images of the dead. Some might say he sees ghosts.
Mike has more than one reason to say - Who Else is There?

More About the Author

Although I'm a writer, poet and artist, in the literary world my purpose is to support, help, advise and guide other writers and artist in whatever way I can. So far, I've helped other writers with cover design, limited editing, promotion and marketing. If there is anything I can help you with, please get in touch. Oh, you want to know how much this will cost - nothing at all. I don't even expect you to buy one of my books or leave a review, but of course, I'd be grateful for you doing just that!

I've also had a stroke or three and I'm a little less abled than I'd like to be.

This is my public profile:: Philip is a former British police officer and lives in England. He has had several unique life experiences, near death encounters, physical disabilities and emotional incidents that have combined to provide a firm foundation for his excellent stories. At the age of 30, after combining an accidental blow to his head with a late night party, Philip survived his first massive stroke. To return to the job he loved proved to be a sometimes amusing, sometimes daunting struggle that took 18 months. With great pride in this achievement, he survived another 11 years as a fully operational, uniformed police sergeant. During this time, he stretched his mind to the limit by studying for a degree.Nine years after that first stroke, everything was put on hold when a younger man took interest in his family, his home but mostly, his wife. Within weeks, his 19 year marriage was at an end, his mind and life collapsed. His inability to cope with the changes left him homeless and estranged from all that he had loved and the daughters he cherished for 18 and 15 years respectively. Despite having no faith, he was encouraged to pray. Amazingly, he discovered that prayer works! Throughout the loneliness and despair of being homeless, prayer sustained him and brought him to a new life, new love, but most of all, a loving and welcoming family that was happy to love him as their own.It was meant to be a happy ever after ending to the tragedies, but just four weeks after his last exam to give him his degree, and 16 days after his second marriage, a road accident caused a second major stroke, bringing his working life to an abrupt end, just a few years short of reaching his full pension.Undaunted and determined to defy the paralysis, he took up music and art, achieving piano grade 3 and paintings that are quite simply breath-taking. ( he approached his 60th birthday, Philip, who is still severely disabled, decided to write about that stroke from 30 years before. From that experience, there emerged the fictional character of Mike Newman.

Like this fictional hero, Philip Catshill is the type of guy who never says I can't.

Philip adds:"I'm glad I don't harbour any ill feelings because I think hatred consumes you quicker and more effectively than cancer.Life is for loving. We only have one crack at it and I am determined to enjoy every single minute of all that remains, and I can do that because when I was at my lowest and called out to God in despair, he was there!Prayer works, prayer heals, try it, and persevere with it.
Life is wonderful. Live it. Enjoy it."
One more note: Following my third stroke, my reduced abilities mean that most employment is no longer an option, thus I have turned my attention to writing and art. As well as producing books and paintings, I devote my time to assisting other writers and artist in any way my abilities and time allow. If I can assist you, please get in touch through my website

I would be grateful if you would consider leaving a review for any of my books. I regularly Tweet about reviews, so if you are on Twitter, contact me through my website at with your @name and I will mention you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enticingly compelling! 15 Dec. 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This a well constructed story with believable characters and written in a style that I find drives the reader to want more. The relationships between husband and wife and then the two friends is well played out and the capability of duplicity and violence is excellently described. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic Character Relationships 6 Nov. 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I found the author's treatment of the characters' relationships in Who Else Is There? to be very realistic. We generally seek out people who offer what we need.
The main characters needed partners who were most similar to themselves. When one character became disabled, for example, he subsequently changed his love interest to favor another who was also disabled.
Another character in Who Else Is There? falls out of love with a male character who changed to become unlike herself. She doesn't follow the trail of her feelings back to the origins of her needs. She instead gets drawn in with another male "twin."
The sex and violence of police work led to some contemptible characters. The author didn't provide graphic descriptions for the most part, but let the reader fill in the blanks.
Who Else Is There? was both an action-packed and unsettling read. I recommend it to people who read cop and action stories. The sequel, Suffer Little Children, is also now available.

Format:Kindle Edition
This is a great book. I love thriller/police procedurals and this kept me hooked from the beginning. Just when I thought I'd got to grips with everything the story went in a direction I wasn't expecting. Couldn't put this book down.

This books hooks you in from the first page. The characters are interesting and varied. You get to the middle of the book, which feels like the end and then the twists draw you in even deeper. It is one of those stories that you cannot put down. It is a book that keeps you thinking, working out situations, challenging the clues and prevents you from preparing the dinner.
