About the Author

David McKee grew up in Devon, England. Later, while a student at Plymouth Art College, he began selling his cartoon drawings to newspapers. Since 1964 he has published a number of successful books for children, including the King Rollo stories, which he helped animate for British television. His first book for Lothrop was Snow Woman, of which Publishers Weekly said, "It is McKee's superb humor--conveyed almost solely in the illustrations...that wins the day." Of his second Lothrop book, Who's a Clever Baby, Publishers Weekly had this to say: "Grandma's alliterative frenzies are fascinating and readers will find Baby's manipulative stubbornness vastly amusing."

Mr. McKee enjoys traveling and doing books that "leave things unsaid."

3.0 out of 5 stars American spelling! 11 Aug 2013
By MRSC
Format:Board book|Verified Purchase
I chose this rating as although the book I ordered had the British spelling of colour, the one we received was the American spelling without a u. I would have returned it but felt that it wasn't worth the hassle - and my granddaughter won't know the difference until she is too old to read the book. However, the website is misleading.
Otherwise a lovely book.

4.0 out of 5 stars How could you not love Elmer 17 April 2014
Format:Board book|Verified Purchase
My only reservation is that it has the American spelling of 'colours'. But I guess when I read this with my granddaughter she will be too young to know the difference. Only time will tell...

2.0 out of 5 stars American version 13 Aug 2013
Format:Board book|Verified Purchase
Lovely story and book, but beware this is the American version so spelling is different - was very embarrassed when friends noticed this at their child's 1st birthday.

5.0 out of 5 stars An ideal first book 3 July 2014
Format:Board book|Verified Purchase
I learned to love the Elmer books when I worked with young children. Now it is one of the two books I always give a new baby. The stories are sweet and there is so much to talk about in the pictures. Everyone should have at least one Elmer book in their collection!

2.0 out of 5 stars American Spelling of Colors! 1 Aug 2013
By Ruth M
Format:Board book|Verified Purchase
I'm so disappointed that I hadn't noticed the American spelling of Colors! I bought this book to replace Elmer's Colours which we had, but then misplaced. Why when I am on Amazon UK, would I get an American Version of the book?
