"The Encyclopaedia has proved valuable in the offices of Network Rail, Consultants, and Contractors; it is especially useful for newcomers to the industry as an in-depth reference work to appreciate the logic and practicality of the "railway language" - for that indeed is what it is."

An invaluable resource,
This review is from: Ellis' British Railway Engineering Encyclopaedia (Paperback)
As a graduate starting out in railway systems engineering I find this book an invaluable reference for dealing with the acronyms and lexicon of the railway. It's peppered with useful diagrams and is interspersed with light-hearted definitions with a particular favourite being the one for Tea: "The lifeblood of the former British Railways, without copious quantities of which the National Railway Network would have ground to a half. Today's Contractor is more likely to drink coffee, owing to the increased levels of stress encountered post-privatisation."
