BEWARE- although this is a lovely looking player after exactly 1 year of owning its now unusable for recording.
When originall bought i had to have it replaced several times before i actually recieved one that worked. Throughout its life i've had a few things go wrong such as locking up and having to reboot, then recording a program only to find at the end there's nothing recorded or at least the recording is unaccessible.
Not only that. the recordings are in a non-standard format therefore cannot be recognised for playing by some computer programs.
Right now, even with a firmware upgrade and a factory reset it just makes RW disks unusable and just doesn't record reliably. In fact if it does record i'm surprised and then if i try to record another title on the same disk it usually becomes unreadable on that attempt!
Whats even worse is -if i lock the disc on this machine which is meant to protect the recording - it actually makes it unreadable. I PERSONALLY HAVE LOST IRREPLACEABLE FOOTAGE BECAUSE OF THIS AND ITS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
overall the spec looks great on paper, its easy to use but it would be nice if it all just worked. I just hope that the other Ellion models are better designed for those who buy them.

Features 10/10
What can i say, after spending weeks researching DVD recorders i settled for the Ellion DVR-535S. The main reason was the features, DVD + and - and so no worries about buying the wrong discs. Two Scart connections, MPEG4 and surround sound, it even has a TV tuner so you can tape one channel and watch another. The icing on the cake was the I-Link (IEEE 1394) for digital camcorder

Looks 10/10
Slimline and modern looking, fits well with my LCD TV. I've seen some recorders (without Hard Drives) which look like old skool video players circa early 1980's!!
Value for money 10/10
£119.99 delivered with the great features and those looks represents very good value for money, especially when comparing with other brands with inferior features.
Usability 10/10
Playing your DVD's is very easy, changing the region is easy, recording be it one touch recoding, be it timer recording be it via a digital camcorder is easy
On the whole a brilliant DVD recorder, Great looks and awesome features its excellent value for money.

I found a new version Ellion Slim in Amazon site with enhanced features, compatible with DIVX playback and Dual format disk recording. I have fancied to buy this since quite a long while ago as I had seen the same model but with a different name in France. It looked smart and slim and good value for money however I knew that the first version of this 530S had freezing problem that made me cautious to buy this unit.
Now I have been so pleased to have this unit which is perfectly recording with all my +/- disks and working well with all my MPEG-4 disks.
Looking at connections on the back of the cabinet, it has got almost all of them I want, two scarts, output/input and 5.1 channels surrounding sound outputs and component/composite outputs and in the front, i-link. This is a really good machine with all those connections/features that can not be compared to cheap dvd recorders in the market place.
My biggest worry, freezing problem, did not exist from the start and it has been working just fine.
Munti-region code is so simple press 7-7- region nbr on the remote with no disk inside which I have got from their service center on the warranty card.
This is a really good machine with such a nice look to it.

Dvd recorder had a damaged tray.
On opening the plastic cover, I noted that the cardboard box was damaged.
