Book Description

A brand new series from the Author of TIMERIDERS!

Welcome to a universe as you've never seen it before;- genetically engineered pocket pets, plant life with a crabby attitude, soda pops that fight back...and revoltingly slimy junk food.

Ellie Quin's just a normal young woman. Bored with her life on a remote farm, staring up at the stars at night and wishing she was far away on another more exciting world.

She thought she was normal. Turns out she was wrong. It turns out she's the most valuable, the most dangerous, the most hunted-for human in the universe... and there are people already closing in on her.

The Legend of Ellie Quin: a breathless pursuit across a colourful, madcap universe of shopping malls and space ships. Lip-gloss and lazer guns.

After a decade in the games business, he ended up as a senior designer working on high-concept projects for next generation consoles. Finally he got bored of all of that and turned his hand to writing. His first manuscript, A THOUSAND SUNS was published in the UK by Orion in 2005. He now has a number of thrillers out and his Young Adult series, TIMERIDERS, has been nominated by Puffin as BEST ADVENTURE FANTASY in their recent BEST SEVENTY CHILDREN'S BOOKS OF ALL TIME press release. Alex Scarrow is fast building a reputation as one of the UK's most original writers. "Alex is plugged into the zeitgeist - his themes of religious chaos, environmental catastrophe and the dangers of unchecked power are perfectly in tune with the times." - Orion Books.

And coming soon, released exclusively on Amazon Kindle, is the ELLIE QUIN SERIES, which Alex describes as a chase story across a future universe that looks a bit like 'BladeRunner meets Douglas Adam's Hitch-Hikers Guide'. He has also described it as 'Bridget Jones in Space'.

Which is intriguing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something new! 25 Dec. 2012
By Parm TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
Alex scarrow best known for his TimeRiders (Book 1) series, and also for his adult thrillers A Thousand Suns, The Candle Man, Last LightAfterlightOctober Skies. The one thing that Alex has been consistent with is his great characters.
Each person is brought to life very quickly, with a very honest human quality, never given an ability or set of circumstances that the every day person could not deal with.
Its this approach that makes all his books grab you from the first page to the last.
Ellie Quin is no exception, i have to say that i draw some comparisons with "The Ballad of Halo Jones" the 2000ad classic tale, but don't let that put you off, its not a classic for no reason, its one of their iconic tales. But Alex does take the concept in a different direction.
Some might wonder if this is a tale for teens? or just girls. But I'm a 40 year old man and i enjoyed it very much....(does that say more about me or the book...i leave that to you).

I give you none of the story, as its too easy to give spoilers... but suffice to say its worth a download (its free for the next few days, and then still only £1.99 after that..parts 2 & 3 are already on amazon to download as well, so get stuck in and immersed in the new Iconic story of a young Woman's travels in a highly imaginative future world. a thriller set against and extraordinary Universe

1.0 out of 5 stars I was spoiled with TimeRiders. 31 Mar. 2015
By Meesha
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Another Alex Scarrow book bites the dust. Literally. I have loved the TimeRiders series since I first started reading but for some reason, I have been unable to get into/enjoy his adult novels. I think (at the name of writing this review) I have tried all but one of his adult books. Thinking this book, aimed at young adults, would be more like TimeRiders, I bought it in paperback.

(The unfortunate thing about this trilogy of books is now they are ONLY available in Kindle format. If I wanted to, I cannot get the other two in paperback. And they are being sold for crazy prices also. Alas, I digress.)

This first book is just shy of 240 pages and fairly large text too. Honestly, you will speed through it in no time. I read it in a few hours. But I just could not find Ellie likeable. She did not jump out from the page at me and beg me to love her and take her into my life, like Sal, Liam and Maddy all did. She came across as much younger than her 20 years and a spoiled brat at that. The storyline seemed slow and plodded along as if it had no idea where it was going or what it was going to do. If the other two books in the series are anything like this one, they could have probably maybe made the text smaller, and crammed the three books into one. Easily.

The main focus was on Ellie but the rest of the characters were barely given any attention and when they were, little was discovered about them. It's set in the future but Ellie is acting like the "world" owes her something, which is something that always annoys me. Like these young girls who dream of becoming famous by *shudder* doing a sex tape like their idols. There's also a rather inane use of slang, "crud" and "freg" being the most popular and overused. Littering the pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Travel Light 20 Aug. 2014

This book sounded pretty good, and having enjoyed a couple of the Time Riders series I figured I'd give it a go.

Aimed more at a younger audience, this was easy to read and the story flowed nicely. As an older reader, I'm not usually put off by books not aimed at me, so long as the story is good - which it is.

This one doesn't give too much away however, other than letting us know the title character is destined for something BIG. Unfortunately we don't get too far on the journey here, and the book is pretty short. I think I would have preferred if the separate parts of this series were put together to make a normal novel length read - no big deal, and I guess it gives you a nice get out if you don't want to take it further than this.

I for one did, and am now ready to start book 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ellie Quin - thoughts and reviews 23 Dec. 2012

NON SPOILER THOUGHTS

before i start i need to point out that some one needs to invent
"CosmoRod Stim-Shakers"

glad that's out of the way :@)

truth be told it took me nearly a whole day to read book 1,but that's more to do with my hectic schedule than anything else.from start to finish this book is not only really easy to read but it has a certain pick up and return factor that other books don't tend to have.

part 1 is the beginning of Ellie's journey, the 1st 3 chapters are set out to introduce the family of Ellie and some of the values, then WAM...an early curve ball is thrown in ,a curve ball that has you second guessing for the rest of the story, followed up by one of my fav chapters ive read in ages, since this is non spoiler i will call it "chapter 5" [original :@) )]its a little side story that iam sure will proberly play out a bit more in later books, but it manages bring an event to life,in a touching and even at parts funny chapter that brings together the true quality's of the Quinn family.

its not the time to go into spoilers [yet] but i will say after i finished book 1,iam eagerly waiting for the time to sit a go threw book 2,and if it wasn't the busiest time of the year,i think i would have kept these thoughts to myself as i would have been to busy going threw book 2 & 3 .

i cant wait to see Jez come into her own in the next book ,and iam looking forward to seeing just what " the event " is,although i have a feeling i proberly wont find out in book 2 either :@0 ....opps there i go predicting again .....

a great start to what i hope will be an even greater journey :@)
