I very much enjoy the Jan Garbarek and Marilyn Mazur sound - it fits in well with the crystal and resonant sound heard on so many old ECM albums. That's good but it also means that this album sounds no different from any other Jan Garbarek CD of the past decade. It would be interesting for Manfred Eicher to force some of his musicians to think outside of their rather limited sound and style as the result would potentially be exhilerating. But for now if this is the first ECM album you've heard then go ahead and enjoy. If it's the 300th then you're unlikely to notice any difference with 100 others. For me I have a feeling this will just go in the pile of rarely used CDs.

Precisely reflects the state of the ears that are listening and is usually a cover for lack of discernment. This isn't toe tapping music for certain but if you're interested in haunting, percussive explorations threaded together by Garbarek's disintinctive soprano, then this is the album for you. If you like Manu Katche, you'll like this.

One of Garbarek's best, it doesn't age with repeated listening.
Very atmospheric with the various cymbals, gongs and utensils.

Marilyn is a good choice of companion for such a project.
Well recorded too.
