I've been using Elixir strings exclusively for just over a year now, so I think I now have enough experience with them to write an accurate review. Here are some of the benefits I've found:

- Longevity (obviously) and reliability:
for me, Ernie Balls need to be changed every 4 days or so. D'Addarios are a bit better at around once per week. With the Elixirs I generally only have to change them once per month, and even then they don't lose their tone as much as other strings do, they tend to just get a little 'dull' sounding after that point. Its also worth mentioning that they stay in tune well and they don't corrode like uncoated strings.

- Playability:
these strings have a slippery feel to them that doesn't really go away. I love this because I feel it gives me better mobility, but if you're not used to it, it might cause you to 'overshoot' your slides. This could be contentious so bear it in mind.

- Sound:
I've heard criticisms levelled at the sound quality of Elixir strings before, which is why I was initially hesitant to try them. Honestly though, I think they're the best sounding stings I've used; they have a very balanced, clear tone that I really like. Every string outputs the same volume, which is something I don't feel I get with the other brands I've used (though obviously this depends on your pickups).

I know that what I've written here sounds more like an advertisement than a review, and I DO usually try to keep my reviews as balanced as possible, but I honestly can't think of anything negative to say here.

Ive been using these strings for a few years now and think they are worth the extra money. The Nanoweb coating helps to prolong the life of the strings so I don't have to change them as often. These strings sound great and last longer between string changes than any other strings I've used

These strings are by far better than any other brand I've ever tried. I tried them for the first time just because they came on the guitar I just bought. They never lost the brightness and harmonics. I changed them only because I had them for almost a year and thought I should. To my regret the new set of strings (Martin)I put did not sound as bright and alive as the old Elixir I just took off. Even though they cost twice as normal ones, they sound like new for more than twice the time. Therefore in my opinion better value for money (+ delays having to change the strings which is a task I feel is as necessary as it is boring)

Yes, Elixir. The best. Buy them. I do. They keep their tone longer than regular strings. I can't find any reason to go back to or try any other brands since converting to Elixir several years ago. The only 'down' side (if there is one) is that when they're really old, the gore-tex in them becomes frayed and the strings start to look a bit... furry. But they still sound pretty good even then.

I really really like the feel of Elixirs and still can't decide between these or the Thomastik Infeld Power Bright ones. The slicky feeling of the Elixirs help the hand slide with ease (but you DO need to be careful on active pickups, they do make too much noise) and I'd recommend them anyway, even though I can't tell any sonic differences between these and the Thomastik (that I use on my other guitar which is a 25.5 scale).

Update: I had a spare set of Thomastik Power Brights Regular .11 and did some A/B testing (recorded some tunes with the Elixir, changed to Thomastik, played a little in order to break them in then recorded the same tunes with those).
Well, it seems that the Elixirs albeit older, are louder than the Thomastik, according to the shape of the waveform and the extra pressure they put on the amplifier. These are also brighter than the Thomastik ones which provide some extra mid to hi frequency clarity.
In any case, the differences were small enough to not really care for one or the other (mostly fixable with some EQing anyway), but since I like the slickiness of the Elixirs more, I'll stick with them (plus they're much easier to find and buy).

I hate changing strings and these do seem to last longer than other conventional brands that I have used. They sound good too but have a slightly grippy or tacky feel to them which might not be to everyones liking. worth the extra cost

I must say that when I started playing guitar in 2004 I have never imagined that these strings will be saving me so much money!

I've started using Elixir, as my usual D'Addario string were snapping pretty often and not offering me enough in terms of quality. Have tried multiple gauges, but this seems to be prefect for an overall player. Their NanoWeb is not just a trademark. It's an awesome technology which basically helps to keep your tone even after several months of heavy playing.

Strings sound fantastic and they are lasting me on average 4-5 months of everyday practice, I usually change them, not when they snap, but when they're worn enough to hear that the sustain is low and tone is somewhat muted.

I would recommend these strings to any guitar player that takes his craftsmanship seriously, as they're worth the price (twice as expensive as standard D'Addario), they will only compliment your music and save you from embarrassment on-stage as they are made to last.

If you're playing anything heavier, these are strings for you. Maybe in a properly upgraded gauge though! :)
