Product Description

Every year, professor of antiquities Jack Hawthorne looks forward to the winter break as a time to hide away from his responsibilities. Even if just for a week or two. But this year, his plans are derailed when he's offered almost a blank check from a man chasing a rumor.

Billionaire Gordon Reese thinks he knows where the bones of the prophet Elisha are--bones that in the Old Testament brought the dead back to life. A born skeptic, Jack doesn't think much of the assignment but he could use the money, so he takes the first step on a chase for the legendary bones that will take him to the very ends of the earth. But he's not alone. Joined with a fiery colleague, Esperanza Habilla, they soon discover clues to a shadowy organization whose long-held secrets have been protected . . . at all costs. As their lives are threatened again and again, the real race is to uncover the truth before those chasing them hunt them down.

An archeological thriller where eternal life is the reward in the chase to uncover an ancient secret. It features Indiana Jones who meets The DaVinci Code.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed it 29 May 2009
An archaelogical thriller with a biblical twist - the bones of the Prophet Elijah, which the Bible records as bringing a dead man to life - have apparently and mysteriously been kept, in secret, for the last few thousand years.

It takes the lead character, Jack Hawthorne, on a journey via Egypt, Venezuela, Ethiopia and Australia to make sense of it all.

Engaging read that becomes a little bit too dramatic toward the end, but nevertheless, is a well paced, easy read, with mystery at the beginning, fights and flights at the close.

Recommended. And if you enjoy this, you may also like Ben Witherington's The Lazarus Effect.

I am reading this at the moment and am enjoying it, some of the story line (for me) could do with a little more action, but a good read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Implausable and a struggle to read 16 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I give this 2.5 starts because it was free - glad I didn't pay for it. Mr. B. gave up mid-way, but I
struggled to the end.

Jack is hired to find Elisha's bones and enlists the help of his ex-girlfriend, Espy. We never found
out why he left her 5 years ago, despite obviously still loving her. I didn't think either character had
any depth and didn't know much more about them by the end of the book.

For 3 weeks they jet off all over the world, following very thin clues, which were poorly explained. Bearing
in mind the bones have been hidden and passed from one "guardian" to another for thousands of years by
a vague Society committed to keeping them safe, Jack's discoveries seemed a mite too easy!
Jack and Espy's activities cause the death of several people - some of them close friends - but they don't
have any contact with the police, until the end, which even then was skimmed over.

As the bones were supposed to have healing powers, even to raising the dead, it seemed a
contradiction that the guardians and the Society were hellbent on murdering anybody who might be able
to find them!

I think there are much better books in this genre and I would not read any more by this author.

A little far fetched in places, but a good read. Would have been even more enjoyable if the finding clues scenes had outweighed the dying friends scenes...

I found the book rather slow to get going but based on a tried and tested formulae ok
The main character is the kiss of death to anyone who knows him, so many die in the book I wonder how he will cope in future episodes.
