Product Description

Intended for intermediate players, these books will eventually form a twelve-book series that takes the reader through the most important aspects of card-play technique at bridge. Each book is short and full of practical examples, and end-of-chapter quizzes reinforce the concepts. The series will appeal to beginners who are anxious to improve in stages, and to more experienced players who want to improve their knowledge of a specific aspect of card play.

Hopefully you think you perform well as declarer and play your 26 cards pretty well. Perhaps you don't make elimination plays because you think it will involve a lot of effort to learn the technique, and to put it into practice at the table. "I can't be bothered with all that counting". So you go down regularly because half of your finesses fail.

This book demonstrates how easy it is to remove your dependence on the finesse. Eliminations are so much more certain to succeed.

It makes the learning process easy, and illustrates that putting it into practice is also easy. You don't have to do lots of counting - not at this level anyway. What's more you will find that you use the techniques every time you visit the table.

It only provides an introduction to the topic but benefits from being modestly-priced, easily followed, and regularly used. When you get the bug you will probably go looking for a more comprehensive book.

But this is a great starter.

This is a shortish book, focussed on the elimination and throw-in bridge technique - a very important one in bridge.
The book explains very well several situations under which this technique is appropriate to use. Very often you will find yourself a trick short of making your contract. Using this technique you can surrender a loser to your opponents, and when they lead for the next trick, it is forced to be in your favour (either via ruff and discard, or giving you the opportunity to promote a non-winner in the suit lead.
This gives several examples of the play, and also a a quiz after every section (with a couple of hands for you to plan yourself).
Overall, I would recommend this bridge book as reading for the intermediate bridge player.

This book, like all in the series, is compact, easy to follow, and very educational.

Service was excellent.
