EyeTV Hybrid is a versatile hybrid TV tuner stick (DVB-T, DVB-C, analogue TV, FM Radio) for digital and analogue television live on your Mac or PC. A superb all-round device, EyeTV Hybrid is the right choice if you get your TV signal from unscrambled cable or from an aerial. EyeTV Hybrid can receive analogue TV as well as digital TV. Overall this is a fantastic addition to an iMac 27 - and turns it into a great TV. There was, however, a problem that was bothering me, namely that, when the USB stick was plugged in directly to the back of my iMac, the signal strength would be solidly 100% but the signal quality would vary between 100% and 0%, and frequently oscillate between 40-80% very quickly. When the signal quality drops below 40% you get pixelation, drop outs, lost audio and generally it removes any enjoyment of watching digital TV as you miss every third work.
Having done a bit of research into this, I suspect that there is interference from the iMac - be it the processor, the aluminium body, the wifi or the bluetooth - something is causing this signal quality degradation. The way to check is if you use the supplied USB extension cable to move the EyeTV dongle away from the iMac (and if possible, shield it behind something) then signal quality is restored to 100% and remains there solidly. Or use an even longer USB extension lead to make sure the dongle is away from any iMac generated interference.
Clearly there is something being emitted from the iMac27 that the EyeTV doesn't like, but it seems that this fix might resolve that problem. If you've had signal quality problems watching TV on your imac, I hope this solution also works for you.

I recently bought my first Mac computer and shortly after decided I wanted to record programmes off the TV. The eyeTV Hybrid seemed to promise to do everything I wanted and to my surprise as a novice technophobe I managed to set it up and get it working without a hitch. The only extra I needed to buy was a USB extension cable to put the aerial closer to the window.
It is a fantastic piece of kit. Very easy to use and very reliable. I've also bought the app for it and can now watch live or recorded TV streamed over the internet by the eyeTV Hybrid straight to my itouch. Wow! That is absolutely amazing! The quality of the picture is excellent. You can also convert the recorded programmes into itouch/ iphone compatible formats and store them on your itouch's memory so you can watch them when not connected to the internet.
If you want to watch on a bigger screen than your computer for the price of a couple of cables (and an hour googling which ones to buy) you can use your computer's hard drive to play recorded programmes on your TV screen via the EyeTV software.

I have 3 dozens of VHS-cassettes with my childhood recordings, my parents travels, and so on. I needed a solution to make this analog video become digital. There's a lot of devices, which offers you transfer video from VHS to your hard drive. And only a few of them work correctly with MacOS. Most of devices are between 100 and 120 pounds (and dramatically more expensive here in Russia - 200+ pounds!). I decided that Elgato EyeTV is good deal, because it's not only digitizing tapes, but also allows you to watch and record TV-programms (analog or digital, HD and SD) and listen to the radio. And I'm not disappointed with my choice.

Eye TV Great product

Approach with caution
The hardware is rubbish, picking up very few of the available freeview channels (this is via a roof-top aerial) but the software is very good indeed
