I originally wanted a CD with a rather psychedelic cover of Planet Jupiter etc as that was appealing to my visual taste, but reviews of the actual recording itself were poor so I opted for this instead. Whilst you get a photo of the distinguished Sir Adrian on the front I cannot fault the music or the recording itself - No tinnyness or murky sound here. I must admit to not having much of a musical ear - or so my music teacher would tell me, but for me the Planets Suite is one of my favourite pieces of Classical music.
From the martial threat and bombast of Mars, to the playful whimsy of Jupiter, and ending with celestial transcendence of Neptune, this is a piece that covers so many emotions and musical colours you are left feeling deeply emotionally fulfilled by the end of it.
I know, I haven't mentioned the Enigma Variations. Well, it contains Nimrod which is surely one of the most stirring pieces of English music ever, and the rest isn't bad either. Coupled with informative sleeve notes this is a bargain and a great introduction to Classical Music
