Being on the cheap end of the marketplace probably leads some to believe Naxos is not good quality. While it may not meet the very exacting standards of Deutsche Grammophon or be able to attract the top artists, Naxos produces excellent CDs at very reasonable and affordable prices and has been doing so for many years.
Edward Elgar's "Variations" played by Adrian Leaper conducting the Bratislava Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Capella Istropolitana produced an excellent addition to the Naxos catalogue.
In 1898, Elgar played a brief melody on the piano which his wife enjoyed and asked him to play again; he began to improvise on the original melody creating musical portraits of some of their friends which he later set for orchestra. So began the "Enigma Variations".
