Elegy for a Queen,
By A Customer
This review is from: Elegy for a Queen (Paperback)
There aren't enough time slip novels published in the UK, and this one is a very welcome addition to the genre. The relationship between the modern day heroine and her Anglo-Saxon counterpart is cleverly developed, and with all kinds of parallels between them being explored in the course of the story. By the middle of the book I was engrossed, and reading very fast so I could find out what happened, but I didn't want the book to end. I hope there will be a sequel.

This is a very well thought-out interesting novel which interwinds a clever plot with likeable characters. Very easy to read and keeps you guessing right to the end. Definately recommended!

A gripping and well researched story.,

This review is from: Elegy for a Queen (Paperback)
This is an extremely well researched novel - even if you don't have any interest in Anglo-Saxon England, or in archaeology, you will certainly do so after reading it. Margaret James is a skilled storyteller who deals deftly with the slips in time between her present day heroine and her past-life antecedent, especially during the chilling episodes where the two periods blur and come together. The discovery of ancient documents in a cathedral library trigger a journey into the past which takes the modern, self-controlled heroine, still struggling to come to terms with a personal tragedy, to the brink of her inner resources, forcing her to face up to emotional truths about her life. Big themes like the enduring power of love are dealt with subtly, giving an extra layer of depth to a gripping and satisfying read.
