Book Description

American Fantasy's brightest new star takes her landmark series to a new high point.

Product Description

ELEGY FOR A LOST STAR sets the stage for a major turning point in the Symphony of Ages series. The dragon Anwyn--who has lain for three years in deathlike sleep in a grave of rock and black coal is freed by the cataclysm that concluded Requiem For The Sun. Disoriented and confused, she remembers only two things-the person who trapped her in dragon form and locked her in the grave - Rhapsody - and an all-encompassing desire to wreak vengeance. Meanwhile, Achmed, the Firbolg king, resumes rebuilding the his shattered home, while a guild of merciless assassins set about taking revenge on him for the killing of their leader. A horribly deformed but magical being finds its way through a carnival of freaks to the palace of an evil despot, who sees in it the potential to be the instrument by which his plans of conquest and brutal domination of a continent will be realized. With the rise of new leaders, good and evil, the long-awaited birth of the Child of Time, the dark plans of assassins and rulers, a confrontation that shakes the relationship of the Three, and a battle to the death between two dragons of unimaginable elemental power, the seeds of chaos are planted for a war that will, by its end, consume half of the world.

The vast majority of the fantasy epics out there lose steam completely after book 3. Blessedly, The Symphony of Ages is not one of them. Elegy for a Lost Star takes turns that have never before been scene in the genre, and demonstrates Haydon's astonishing skills at their best. The characters change and grow as real people might, love as real people might, argue as real people do. How refreshing that we are not seeing the same story played out over and over again *coughGoodkindcough* but rather discovering more and more the beauty, the horror and colours of Haydon's endless imagination.

Elizabeth Haydon, has joined the ranks of EVIL AUTHORS, such as Diana Marcellas, and Joanne Birtin, in that she is a wonderful writer, who starts a fantastic story, only to abandon it, just as it starts to get really interesting. I have recently discovered that Ms Haydon is selling her domain name, and had to wonder, if this was to escape the pleading of her numerous fans, for her to finish what she started. Not only has she left Symphony of Ages swinging in the wind, with two more books pending in the Assassin King Trilogy, (which is a continuation of the Symphony of Ages series), she has also started a series called, The Lost Journals of Jon Polypheme, which is also associated with the Symphony of Ages, but is a prequel, for Young adults, and she has also abandoned this with two more books to go. Could this be a trend? One of the other reviewers has said that they will not buy anything else by this author, until the Symphony of Ages is completed, and I have to say, I feel the same way, although it seems that Ms Haydon won't be giving us the opportunity for this kind of protest, since she appears to have disappeared off the writing scene altogether. A real shame, since she has a real talent, as a writer, but unfortunately a gift also for leaving her fans unsatisfied.

Symphony of ages 11 Dec 2010

Format:Paperback
The first triology of Symphany of ages is an excellant well written fantasy series as are the second triolgy, however the second triology leads us into the third triology and this is where Elizabeth Haydon seriously lets down her loyal readers, The first book in this series The Assain King was published in 2006 and there is no sign of Elizabeth Haydon continuing this series, So with hindsight i would never have purchased the second series or the book The Assain King. Felt very let down by the author and will not buy any more of her books until i know the series is complete.
