I would just like to say that I am currently studying for a BSC(Hons) in Music Technology. This requires a basic understanding of electronic principals. In my electronics lecture, the lecturer uses this book to teach us these basic principals. Although we only need a basic knowledge of circuits and components for things like amplifiers, I found myself wanting to learn more, so I bought this book, and I am thoughrally enjoying learning from it by myself. You can just skim the surface, or go in head first, as I have, and thoroughly study all of the book, I think it is a great text book for a wide variety of people wanting to learn more about electronic devices.
It starts from basic structures of atoms, and the flow of electrons, and builds up through components, and devices (AC & DC), thoughrally testing at the end of each chapter, with aplication assignments as well, Getting harder and more complicated as you go through it. You also get a CD rom with Multisim circuits that are refered to throughout the book for help with testing, analysing and understanding the circuits and components.(You have to have Multisim to use these)
Overall... This book makes things very easy to understand, even in the harder parts of the book. Highly recomended!!
