I bought this book many years ago and I have just started to re-read it. In the introduction the author says that he has put his heart and soul into the book - and to my mind it shows.
Initially, I would have thought that such a book would not be to my liking because my mind tends, or so I thought, to prefer knowing how something works rather than why it works. I am pleased to say that the author's tendency to explain in depth - but in a gentle way, without much more than ohms law, how semi-conductors are constructed and work - has opened my eyes to a true understanding of electronics. The visual layout of the book is superb; almost, as the saying colloquially goes 'a work of art' in itself.
There are lots of examples and test questions in the book - to aid your understanding of the topic. If you dedicate yourself to tackling such questions then I am convinced that you will have a real understanding of what is happening in an electronic circuit.
I paid just under £16 for the book. There are later versions which also include circuit simulation software.
I can't find anything bad to say about the book. Why not buy it?
