This book is a great read and tells you all you need to know to create your own effects, Pre-amps etc. with one minor draw back: since it's re-release in 2001 the sole company who create one of the components essential to a large number of the projects in this book has since ended production and these items are now obsolete. There is one alternative component but it is incredibly difficult to find and I have not yet found a supplier in the UK.

A lot of the components used in this book are from the arc and some as dead as the dinosaurs but all except that one problem part have modern counterparts readily available.

THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL! There is ONE Company mentioned in the book that sell the projects kit-form as well as the boards and components separately - they seem to have a job-lot of this now infamous component and will ship worldwide at a reasonable rate and who are very friendly. No web address is given in the book but they do now have a site that a quick search on the web will reveal.

Arguably the best DIY guitar effects book around, suitable for both beginners and more experienced stompbox enthusiasts. Covers all aspects of stompbox construction, from construction and PCB layouts, to parts considerations and reading/understanding schematics. A Must For All!!

Much too basic 7 Jan 2005
By Wurgle
Format:Paperback
Too much of this book is devoted to non-electronic things such as pictures of what tools to use. I found the projects very basic and uninteresting. Many of the parts used in the circuits are going to be hard to get and so those with basic electronics knowledge may find it hard to modify the circuits to use new components. Very disappointing.
