Product Description

Product Description

This seventh edition of Malvino’s classic Electronic Principles offers students a definitive overview of electronic circuits and devices. Expert knowledge of electronic devices is presented in a stimulating, clearly written, conversational style. The new, streamlined book design is full-color throughout, with ample, clear illustrations. Greater emphasis on modern integrated circuit (IC) technology, and the revision of nearly one third of the previous edition’s chapter problems and review questions refresh this text while retaining its proven approach.

Electronic Principles is written for electronics students who have done course work in basic DC/AC circuit analysis, along with algebra and trigonometry prerequisites. The book gives clear, accessible coverage of basic electronics concepts in the first half of the book, then applies these to the important electronic circuits and devices most widely used in today’s industry. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

From the Publisher

A new, full-color design in which each component of a circuit diagram is in a different color, making it simpler for students to identify components.
Job Interview Questions, a new end-of-chapter feature containing typical questions employers might ask to determine the prospective employee's depth of knowledge of electronics.
Expanded coverage of OP AMPS and an introduction to surface mount technology.
Interfaces with the popular Electronic Workbench software to keep text on the cutting edge of electronic instruction. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I bought this book many years ago and I have just started to re-read it. In the introduction the author says that he has put his heart and soul into the book - and to my mind it shows.

Initially, I would have thought that such a book would not be to my liking because my mind tends, or so I thought, to prefer knowing how something works rather than why it works. I am pleased to say that the author's tendency to explain in depth - but in a gentle way, without much more than ohms law, how semi-conductors are constructed and work - has opened my eyes to a true understanding of electronics. The visual layout of the book is superb; almost, as the saying colloquially goes 'a work of art' in itself.

There are lots of examples and test questions in the book - to aid your understanding of the topic. If you dedicate yourself to tackling such questions then I am convinced that you will have a real understanding of what is happening in an electronic circuit.

I paid just under £16 for the book. There are later versions which also include circuit simulation software.

I can't find anything bad to say about the book. Why not buy it?

I am sorry that I have to disagree totally with the previous review.

This book explains fundamentals in such a clear fashion that if you pay attention to what Malvino is saying, you cannot possibly get the fundamentals wrong.

Once you have a good foundation about how diodes, bipolar and Junction FET and related circuits work, you can easily move on to more advanced material (backed with some math and circuit theory knowledge) presented in books such as Millman, sedra and smith and gray and meyer.

This book is a very good starting point. It will provide a strong foundation to move onto more advanced electronics. Highly recommended.

An OK book 27 Dec 2009

Ok as an electronics text but not as good as the Floyd books on electronics. I feel as though I made a mistake in buying it!
