2.0 out of 5 stars Would be great if I could actually use it in-text 27 July 2012
By PonPon
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Unfortunately it seems that I although I can set it as a default dictionary, it doesn't actually work as a default dictionary. I have several Danish texts on my Kindle but when I set the default dictionary to "An Electronic Danish Dictionary" it simply does not work as an in-text dictionary function. Unless the seller can provide an explanation, (I followed the instructions of course)then I do not recommend it if you are looking for a dictionary that can help you while reading books in Danish on your kindle.

3.0 out of 5 stars Seems OK - I have not yet used it much 29 Mar. 2014

I have not yet used it enough to write a full review, but so far it seems satisfactory. But if you want to use it independently of any book you may be reading on a kindle - and there is not much that can be obtained on Amazon.co.uk yet in Danish - then don't try using it with the new-style kindles. I have specially purchased an old kindle, not a kindle light, for use when I am reading ordinary books or doing interpreting jobs. The kindle light has a problem in that you can put your finger on a particular word in the text and the translation will come up on your screen, but this is totally useless if the word in the text has a suffix or prefix, e.g. "hus" becomes "huset" with the definite article added in Danish. Sad, because having dictionaries on my old kindle meant that I could go away for a weekend without taking heavy books.

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE! 8 Dec. 2012
By Hans Jørgen Marker - Published on Amazon.com

As KlausK already pointed out this does not work as a Danish dictionary on your Kindle. This is in direct contradiction to what Amazon claims in the desciption of the book.

I had a long and very nice chat a couple with a support person at Amazon, who at last reached the conclusion that this was a technical problem, and he had refered it to the technical department, who would get in touch with me when the problem was solved. That has not happened yet, which is why I warn everybody against buying this book as a Danish dictionary for you Kindle.

I suspect that it would actually be relatively easy for the Amazon technichal department to solve the problem. I guess that the file must be marked in some way that it is a dictionary and which language it is a dictionary for. Unfortunatly it does not seam to be something that an ordinary user have access to.

So rather than asking for my $5.74 back I am still hoping that the Amazon technical department will look into this. Untill they do I warn the rest of you against wasting you money.

2.0 out of 5 stars There are no words... 8 Sept. 2012

... to describe how frustrating this dictionary is because it, well, lacks words. I am an intermediate/advanced Danish speaker/reader and one of my favorite features about my kindle when reading in English is the built-in dictionary, so when I found this dictionary, I was really excited that I would finally be able to leave my heavy Danish-English dictionary on the shelf when reading e-books in Danish.

Unfortunately no. There simply aren't enough words in this dictionary to come anywhere even close to making it worthwhile for me. After "no results" for 95% of my searches, I started looking up much more common, simple words I already knew and a huge number of these were missing too. So unless your reading level in Danish is along the lines of "See Spot run," then I'd say save your $5.

Still, I'm giving it 2 stars because it's the only thing out there (I haven't even been able to find an e-book version of a Danish-Danish dictionary, let alone one that I'm sure I could configure as a default dictionary on my kindle), and if I get a definition 5% of the time, I guess that's still better than nothing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't really work 15 Oct. 2012

Content might be fine, the problem is that the setup as a Danish Dictionary for the Kindle doesn't work.

It looks like that the Kindle simply doesn't support the Danish language. The author suggested to redefine the standard dictionary for the English language with this Danish dictionary. However, if you have a document and the document language is set to Danish then my Kindle device tells me that it doesn't have a dictionary for the document language. So, it only works if you have a Danish document that is falsely declared to be written in English.

This item is cheap, but I would like to have my money back.
