About the Developer: The Sims Studio
It's more than 20 years since Will Wright created SimCity and his development company Maxis. A lot has changed in that time, including the rise of The Sims as the studio's biggest game, but after being bought by EA elements of the team still work on the series and new titles such as Spore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth a 2nd look.... 7 Jan 2011
By RJW TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Edition:Standard Edition
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The last time I played a Sims game was almost 6 years ago on the Playstation 2. And I hated it. I found it boring and I just couldn't see the point.

So why did I decide to get The Sims 3 for my ps3? Well in truth, I didn't. That is to say that this game was gifted to me for Christmas from a well-meaning relative. Of course I was grateful for the gift, but inside I was sick to my stomach. 'Not this. Anything but this...' I thought.

But my goodness, how things have changed in the last 6 years.

The Sims 3 is a joy to behold. When playing, you get the distinct feeling of an actual living breathing world. A world in which you have real influence. Instead of mindlessly controling a sprite from above, you feel as though your Sim is really doing your bidding. You start to care about how your sim looks, if the rubbish has been taken out, whether dinner will be ready in time, or whether you have time to visit the book store before work... Ah, if only life in the real world was like this.
This game is lifestyle fantasy. Create a sim in your image and bestow upon him/her whatever traits your feel like.. Evil, Logical, Romantic, Lucky.. The list goes on.
Spend hours decorating your house, (decorating is free, but furniture costs). Set the lights, read a paper, watch tv, go fishing, socialise with other sims..
Just think of all the basic things that people do in real life and then imagine being able to engage in those activities without fear of anxiety or consequence. This is the central theme of The Sims 3.
It's not a strategy game, nor is it a Logic game.. It's more of a Simulator. A lifestyle simulator.

The game works smoothly on the ps3 as far as I can tell.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but they missed a few tricks.. 11 April 2011

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I have lost many hours playing this game and I have to say that overall I enjoy it, despite the slow load times when you move from location to location.

However, I was really disappointed to realise that you can't see your sims doing anything out of the ordinary. For example my sim entered an eating challenge at the bistro and I could only watch the outside of the building. If you go for the tour of the mauseleum you are asked if your sim should turn left or right in the tunnels but all you can actually see is the outside of the building. Similarly when your sim goes to work, or to a restaurant, or to the cinema.

If you call a fellow sim and invite them out to the cinema, they just stand outside it talking, maybe this was just me but I couldn't get them to actually go in and watch the movie, not that I'd have been able to see what they did if even if I had successfully gotten them inside.

So overall I really enjoying whiling away many hours working my sims up their chosen career paths and improving their houses. But I'm disappointed that you don't get to see a lot of the stuff your sim actually does.

4.0 out of 5 stars SIMply great! 30 Oct 2010
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Edition:Standard Edition
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Having played this on the PC i was excited about The Sims 3 coming to the consoles, in this case PS3, purely so I could relax on the sofa with my favourite PC game! If you want me to state my preference I would say the PC version is better purely because the PC is it's original platform and it was designed with this in mind. It plays well on the PS3 although it takes a while to get used to the controls. The game play is slightly different on the PS3, if a little more generic but plays well. At first I wasn't impressed but now after only a few hours I'm used to it and it's definately a grower. With console specific extras like the Karma thing it does add more to the game. Try it, it's something new for the PS3 and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Just over a month ago, my flatmate suggested I play The Sims Social on facebook - and I caved in and said okay. I got hooked... and remembered there was a 'real' Sims that came out on the Amiga or was it PS1?

I checked Amazon and found to my surprise there was a PS3 version, so that's the version I bought because I prefer console gaming to PC gaming, mainly because I can't be bothered to keep upgrading a PC just to play games.

The short of it is that I'm addicted to this game! I've since read that "the PC version is so much better", but I'm reviewing this from the point of view of someone who doesn't and never plays PC games. I'm not interested in the PC vs X360 vs PS3 wars. I just care whether a game - in itself - is good or not.

GRAPHICS: 3/5
For a relatively new game, the graphics look quite basic. But they're decent enough for what you want from the game, and it's pretty clear what everything is.

SOUND: 5/5
The main theme is very catchy, and plenty of the ditties are equally as catchy: I find myself humming a lot of the tunes. The sound effects themselves are mostly functional, but some are hilarious - and the fact that everyone speaks Simlish makes it more fun. I tend to 'imagine' what they're saying, e.g. "sadap, ele-gimja" I imagine it to be "Shut up! I'm a ninja".

INTERFACE: 4/5
The HUD works fine, but I get a feeling that they could have reduced the font size and fit far more in the HUD, reducing the need to tab between the six various panels on the bottom-right of the screen. My guess is that the game was written for 720HD TVs rather than 1020HD, hence the larger writing.

CONTROLS: 4/5
For the most part, the controls work very well - especially pushing L3 to return the cursor on your Sim.

This game was decent, I expected a lot more however as it didn't seem to have improved much from when it was on the Playstation 2, gets boring after a short while of playing.
