As we all now this game is the secound and final installment of the godfather game, at first i was sceptical due to various negative reviews, but this game is way underated.
It adds many great features from its PS2 predecessor:
- Somewhat better graphics
- Building and upgrading your family and bussiness (i.e, your crew)
- The Don's View (an ingame map that allows you to manage your criminal empire)
- The diversity to conquer Miami and Cuba as well as New York
At first the game seems very repetitive and the opening could have captivated you a bit better, after creating your ideal mobster at first the game is quite linear however once you get out and about and throughout the story the various features are unlocked, then yeah, the game becomes a lot of fun, the feature that excited me most was having the ability of choosing your family members. This involves recruiting promising associates into your family each with a designated skill-set, for example a medic, or a arsonist, the medic of course can heal you when you're downed in a fight (when you're in the "life" these things are bound to happen) the arsonist can create a distraction while you muscle in on a rivals bussiness, you can also upgrade your crews attributes and apperal, and of course reward them with a promotion. They are all self-suffincent but can be given orders such as following you or sending them home. Also sending them to take over control of rival bussinesses through the don's view can can be great fun. I completed the game in about 18-20 hours, my tip to enjoy the game as much as possible, dont take over any bussinesses untill you have the story to require you to, i didnt so the game feeled more rushed and unfinished.
However I must say the multiplayer leaves much to be desired but the whole purpose of the online play is to earn licences for your crew so they can equip themselves with better weapons and a steadier hand to go along with it, you will have to recieve "honours" which are achieved by certain objectives such as "1st place on the winning team" or "revive 5 teammates", i would suggest these are really quite useless as your crew will stomp out the brains of any wiseguy who gets in your way without a high-grade firearm.
Also there are many collectables, such as doing favours for corrupt officals, upon completing these you are given the ability to either remove your wanted level, get a made man out of jail etc, but the most exciting is of course the executions, and the most entertaining of the game's combat, smash in some wiseguys face with a baseball bat, maybe ventilate the back of someones head with your tommy guy, or perhaps blast in thier pretty face with your shotgun, you get the idea.
Many other reviews (as well as my own) give you plenty of good reasons to get this game, i only gave this game four stars, as the graphics seem typical of a PS2 game, they're not terrible but not something we'd expect the next gen PS3 to give us, not only do the textures seem poor and faded but at times they can be glitchy, such as not focusing out in the distance. The AI can be at times (and i throw this word very loosely) dumb, at times when your crew are left behind, they will magically reapear in front of you.
Don't let the cons throw you off, the game is still great fun, despite the flaws you will find it hard to stop playing, however apart from the above critisisms, i would say this game could have remained truer to the movie its based on, which its predecessor did a great job off. If you enjoyed the previous game this is very similar with a few extra bonuses.
This installment wraps up the godfather videogame franchise, as EA announces this was the last game due to the expiration of its license, but who knows? Maybe in the future we'll have Godfather III.
this game features 42, all off-line trophies, all easily obtainable:
1 Platinum; 4 Gold; 9 Silver; 28 Bronze
A great worthy game that will take libertys with your time but Unfortunetly we cant say:
"No last Words, No last Requests".
