4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a look for fans of Dynasty warriors, 16 July 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Samurai Warriors (PS2) (Video Game)
This latest offering from Koei is a mixed bag, for fans of the series, this is probably going to be a marmite game - you either love it or hate it.
On the plus side, the graphics are definately on a par with Dynasty warriors 4, if not better, the characters demonstrate more 'realistic movements' and each character has an alternate 'costume' upon story mode completion.
The game itself does not have quite as many levels as Dynasty warriors 4, but offers multiple routes to complete the game for each character which is a plus.
Other features include a more involved officer creation system, the ability to customise your character and an increased number of special moves for each character.
On the negative side, I found the 'castle' levels to be repetitive and annoying as they involve running through similar looking corridors looking for the exit to the next floor while being pursued by 1000 men.
Also, the game offers specific missions during each battle as opposed to simply 'seek and destroy the officer', although this is a pain when the game simply commands you to 'charge the enemy camp alone', an invite for instant death on the harder difficulty levels.

A great epic questfull game which follows on from the dynasty warriors saga.I think this is better than dynasty warriors, you can create and train a character. There are co-op,vs and challenge mode. You start with at least 5 great characters, there are characters from kessen, dynasty warriors 1 and ominusha. There are realistic deaths wich is a plus as in dynasty warriors there isnt. All the characters have style plus the ones you win.Hopefully it will have many sequels like dynasty warriors!!!If u enjoyed the dynasty warriors games then this is a must by!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Samurai Warrior Review, 11 Aug 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Samurai Warriors (PS2) (Video Game)
First off, I am a fan of the Dynasty Warriors series, and of role-playing games.
Now, this is a worthy addition to the series, but is being slightly mis-sold in my opinion. Every review I've seen has talked about "role-playing elements". Not so; what it does have is a skills system, which allows you to customise your characters a bit. For example, I use Misou (spectacular attacks on multiple enemies) a lot, and the skill system allows me to increase my Misou gauge (longer attacks) and Misou attack force (power of blows in a Misou attack), rather than my Charge attack, which I just don't use.

Graphically, it's the best yet, with less slow-down and better detailed characters. My biggest complaint there is that I preferred the fog of the earlier versions to the blackness of this title.

No regrets about buying it.
