Manufacturer's Description

A modern day reinvention of one of the most critically acclaimed arcade franchises of all-time, EA SPORTS™ SSX will allow players to experience the franchise’s signature fun and adrenaline-packed gameplay across iconic mountain ranges all over the world.

Using NASA topographical satellite data, we’ve mapped out a Massive World for players to explore. Throughout nine expansive mountain ranges, SSX packs reality-defying gameplay into every run letting players Race, Trick, and Survive down huge open mountains. In addition, Explore, Global Events and RiderNet - SSX’s recommendation engine - headline an online feature set that will revolutionize social competition for gamers, making it fun and easy to compete with friends on your schedule.

Key Features:

  • Conquer the Planet's Mountains— From Antarctica to Africa and the Himalayas to the Alps, players will drop into nine of the most iconic mountains ranges on planet earth. Using NASA topographical data and our proprietary Mountain Man tool, each of these iconic mountain ranges have then been exaggerated to deliver a gameplay experience that is true to SSX
  • Race it —Way beyond your typical racing experience, SSX allows players to race down huge open mountains with multiple elevations and no invisible walls to hem the player in.
  • Trick it—Defying the laws of reality, SSX will enable players to pull off tricks that would make even the world’s greatest snowboarders cringe. Forget a 1260° Double Mctwist, in SSX if you still have both feet strapped to the board while you’re spinning 200 feet in the air then you’re still a beginner. With a refined trick system and levels designed to deliver trick opportunities at every turn, filling your Tricky meter is a must
  • Survive it — A new gameplay element inspired by big mountain snowboarding, SSX asks players to survive some of the most treacherous descents on earth. Challenged by the power of Mother Nature, players will have to survive avalanches, white outs, freezing cold temperatures and much more, as they make their way down these natural boss battles.
  • Advanced Physics—Harnessing the power of the current generation of consoles, SSX introduces a revolutionary physics engine that will allow players to ride and trick off almost anything in the environment, unrestricted by invisible walls and barriers.
  • Upgradeable Gear —From boards of varying speeds to wing suits that let you glide for longer distances, upgrade your gear to ride faster, trick higher and survive longer
  • Characters Old and New —Favorite characters, as selected by the fans, make their return to SSX along with some new faces that will be joining the franchise. Returning characters include: Elise, Kaori, Mac, Psymon, Moby and Zoe.
  • Explore - Explore every drop in the massive world of SSX. Set your fastest time on Race Drops, post your highest score in Trick Drops, and descend as far down the mountain as you can in Survival Drops. In addition to a traditional leaderboard showing friends’ times to beat, ghosts of your friends’ runs are also visible in your world showing you exactly how they tackled a run. Challenge your friends’ ghosts or let your own ghost chalk up wins and losses, while you’re away from your console.
  • Global Events - Constant global competition at every drop point the SSX universe against real people in real-time. Events can last for a single run, hours, or even days, with your friends and closest competitors phasing in and out of your immediate surroundings at all times. Post a time and move up or down the leaderboard even after you turn off your console.
  • RiderNet - Inspired by the incredible Autolog engine from Need for Speed, RiderNet will be the players guide through the world of SSX. It will allow players to ‘like’ their favorite drops, recommend new drops and friends to the player, point players to ghosts that are beating their scores and much more.

SSX at its finest 3 Mar 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun:
It is one of the most anticipated games of 2012 and has been given a deserved 9/10 from IGN.

Where to start?

Presentation:
The main menu is beautifully presented and the globe feature is a very cool touch. It allows for easy access to every region in the game and looks slick too. The colours blend well and overall it's one of the better menus out there. The characters are displayed like the old games, except this time they update depending on your set chosen outfit for them, neat touch. The Global Events ranking system and scoreboard are presented nicely and it is easy to identify the gold from the bronze.

Graphics:
A huge improvement from the previous games, although that was to be expected as this is a step up to the new generation of consoles. The mountain ranges look beautiful and the colours from the sun and lava are divine. The animations for your character are more realistic and the movement of the snow and ice is more believable than in previous titles.

Gameplay:
There are 3 modes in which to play SSX.
World Tour. You must conquer the 9 Deadly Descents of the world, and to spice things up, it's a race to beat SSX veteran Griff. You must play with every character in the game in order to do this so I suppose it allows you to test them all out and discover which one is your favorite ( of course if you've played the previous games, you already have one!) The new characters do nothing for me and just act as more competition. One downside is you don't feel as attached to them as they rarely speak.
Explore. You are given the World as your playground as you have access to every drop on SSX. Be free and enjoy the tracks to beat your friend's times and scores.
Global Events. In my opinion THE best game mode of the lot. Events are set up by SSX with certain requirements on each track. So, for instance an event can prohibit the use of wing suits and can set a max gear level. This adds difficulty to the game and separates the best from the rest. After each run, your time is posted to the leaderboards, you are ranked from Diamond to Bronze and are given credits relating to where you sit in the standings.
In my opinion, the most disappointing aspect of this new SSX is the lack of split-screen multiplayer. There was nothing better than to play against mates in the same race and on the same TV. This will be sorely missed and puts a downer of a seriously good game.

Music: In the previous titles, the soundtrack was out of this world, with music that fits with the style of the game perfectly. I can tell you that this time around, it certainly doesn't disappoint. The soundtrack is sublime and I find myself singing and tapping along to it. Music in games is a crucial aspect and when it's perfect, it certainly shows. Ea have always been good with music.

Conclusion.:
To sum up, this game is a MUST for SSX fans and for people new to the scene who want a game that is amazingly fun and awesome to play. The huge improvements on graphics and enjoyable, replayable game modes means you will be still be playing this next year. The only bad side to this is the minimal glitching and lack of split screen multiplayer, oh how this game could have been perfect with that. Don't let that leave a bitter taste in your mouth however, as despite that, this game is phenomenal and should be given the credit it deserves. The adrenaline that can be pumped through your body while riding through an avalanche is quite something, and when you have this feeling, you know this game is great.

9.7/10

By A. BUNCALL VINE™ VOICE
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Fun:
I understand the need for new games to change direction every now and again so that they don't become stale. However, it's been so long since we had an SSX game I can't help but be disappointed overall with this long overdue game.

SSX On tour was such a slick game, really simple in its concept and really stylish in its menu navigation and setup. Part of the joy of previous SSX games was the balance between cashing in on a massive combo you've built up or risking "just one more trick" and it turning out to be one trick too many as you bail on a landing or a rail. In this way you felt like it was your fault if you lost out on big points and it kept you playing over and over again.

This game has clearly been developed with an "EXTREME" theme in mind. Again, I don't mind the concept and I understand the need to move in a slightly different direction but the gimmicks and the majority of the runs/levels are just plain annoying. The concept is that you're tackling "deadly descents".....i.e not your run of the mill pistes, off-piste runs with lots of obstacles including; crevasses (lots and lots of annoying deadly drops which sometimes you just cannot seem to avoid), pits of molten lava (as previous but somehow even more annoying!), extreme cold temperature runs where you have to keep in the sun as much as possible or risk turning into an ice-cube, high altitude (this is easily the most annoying) where you have an oxygen tank to stop you blacking out - in practice this means that as you are tackling the run your entire screen starts to narrow in a James Bond opening credits style until you press R1 to release oxygen....you need to do this pretty much every 3 or 4 seconds making the whole run a pain in the backside.

I don't actually mind all the above gimmicks for the end of level descents where you're just trying to get down the run, to prepare for these however you need to do races and trick/points runs against opponents. It's these levels that are really annoying. You can be in the middle of a really great combo, turn a corner and be faced with the narrowest of paths with huge "traps" either side. The amount of times I've fallen down a pit just makes certain levels unplayable.

Where this does happen the game tries to "help" you by doing something even more annoying...."would you like to skip this level and still earn the xp" comes up on the screen. It's almost as if the developers realised how irritating the game can be and gives you a get out clause - one which the gamer inside of me is loath to accept but some levels are just mind numbingly crevasse filled!!

Aside from the annoying gimmicks the game menu system, character setup and equipment upgrades feel clunky and confused. The back stories for all the characters, whilst nicely animated, are really poor and cheesy.

The game is fun is certain places still and I understand the desire to make something a little bit different but SSX was always a little bit unrealistic in terms of the amount of tricks and air you get but it always had such a playable feel to it that it somehow didn't matter. The molten pits of lava and the wingsuits have just tipped it over the edge for me and the fun of perfecting a particular half pipe or rail has been replaced with endless restarting of levels due to yet another fall to my doom!!

Disappointing... 25 May 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun:
Can't believe they have taken away the 2 player feature...that was the best part of the game...yes you can play online but even that is difficult with having to buy into sessions....wierd. Total let down. Plus having had to use the online code to try it out on multiplayer if I want to give it away its of no use to man nor beast if they want the same as me and play 2 player.
