Tricky removes two characters from the previous game and adds five new ones. It adds two new race locations to the already beefed-up World Circuit (Garibaldi and Alaska). The developers also added features to the older tracks, effectively making them new again. Tricky improves the graphics a bit and refines the controls. The game even tweaks the basic gameplay by letting you upgrade your boarder's stats in races, but also forcing you to attempt and master the showoff mode. And EA improved the challenge by evening out the learning curve. SSX tended to be a cakewalk until the later races in each set, but this time your rivals get more intense and aggressive depending upon the lap you're taking.
As in the first game, personality is everything. This is true not only in terms of voice acting, but also in how you treat opponents. The game has a few basic attitudes. If you block and attack characters too much, they'll remember and actively seek you out. If you help one or two of them, they'll become your allies, warning you of danger or fending off attackers. The changes are deep enough to change quite a bit, and they'll delight even fans who are tired of, or who mastered, the first game on the PS2. Maybe that's the most impressive über-trick of them all. --Bob Andrews
With voices supplied by celebrities such as Oliver Platt and Macy Gray, the SSX Tricky riders come to life on the snow-covered icy mountain courses. Establish friendships, create rivalries and show off your high-flying skills in three different types of race. When you're ready to catch real air, reach into your bag and bust out one of the crazy new über-tricks that take airborne flight to the next level with flips, twirls and more. New Garibaldi and Alaska courses let you get more vertical and catch more air, while all the original courses have some new surprises. Six new riders join most of the original SSX crew to provide a wide range of abilities and competition. The Xbox version uses DVD media that allow for additional content including a new DVD-like 3-D front end as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes and production footage ranging from voice-recording sessions to off-the-mountain interaction between the riders.

Having never played the original SSX game - I have little knowledge of how EA have improved the game. I do know that the new features on this game are: Surround sound, New Levels, New Players, and new Game Play elements. Presentation/Visuals Game Play/Playability There are several play modes to the game - Sound Overall You'll be playing it for ages, and when your done - there will always be those damn records!

God bless the creators of this game!,
This review is from: SSX Tricky (Xbox) (Video Game)
This game is awesome, the graphics, the gameplay, the tricks, the characters. This game will have you glued to your screens. There are celebrity voices such as Macy Gray, David Arquette and even Lucy Lui! One of the best characteristics of this game is the insane uber-tricks where the characters do back-flips and everything on their boards in mid-air! You can also develop an enemy out there in the snow by pushing them over or by 'accedentally' bumping into them. as the game progresses you can unlock new courses, new players, new boards and new outfits. This game is fun to play aswell as being exciting and on moments funny. (I can't forget to say ASTOUNDING!) Buy it! Even if you're not really good at video games, it is sooo easy to pick up.

Cartoony style, but addictive,

Seriously fun game. My wife chose this as the bundle game when she bought the Xbox for my birthday, and it has probably been played more than our other five titles put together. Why? Because my four year old son Thomas is seriously hooked on it and we get to play together a lot as well. Easy enough for beginners, and so many ways to develop in the game (new characters, slopes, tricks, boards, custumes, etc) that there is always another thing worth playing for. Also, the DVD has a lot of value-add material such as movies about the design and concepts. Action is rather "cartoony" and the laws of physics get a more than a bit bent, but all ages seem to really enjoy it.
