Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Taste the tension and take the big hits as Rugby 06 slams you back into the scrum for the most realistic and intense rugby experience yet.

Keep the match flowing with new off-load passing and quick set plays and get as close as you can get to the mud, sweat and tears of the real thing with faster, more realistic and responsive gameplay.

Drive your team to victory with effective use of your impact players whose innovation, inspiration and discipline can mean the difference between a humiliating defeat and a spectacular win.

When the pressure is really on and the game is on the line, resort to tough tactics to neutralise your opposition's impact players. Used at the right time, laying a high hit on an opponent can turn the game in your favour. But remember, it's just as likely to hand the advantage to your rivals and land your player in the dreaded sin bin.

With authentic teams and players, more expansive gameplay and all-new hard-hitting action, Rugby 06 lays bare the heart and soul of the greatest game on earth.

5.0 out of 5 stars At Last a Rugby game for Rugby fans!! 14 Feb 2006
I have played every rugby game ever released, from Jonah Lomu, EA Rugby (various years) and World Championship Rugby etc, etc. Every time I felt let down that not enough effort had gone into the design of the games, I doubt that any of the designers even knew what rugby was!!! I even bought Rugby Challenge 2006 last week, which was just as dire as the rest, with awful commentary and gameplay. There were no knock ons or penalties so it was a regular occurance to see a one half last about 120mins!!! I traded it in for Rugby '06, and I was over the moon with what I found! Rugby '06 is the best rugby game ever...no question. Quick lineouts, tap penalties, knock ons and for the first time the opposite teams actually give away penalties! This all gives the game a very realistic feel. A further feature is that of correct anthems, crowd songs, (Bread of Heaven, Swing low) and New Zealand perform the Haka in a nice cut scene before you kick off.
A great rugby game that at last will satisfy a true fan. Buy it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The new generation of PS2 rugby in the making 21 Mar 2006
Number 1. This is a amazing game. It has everything you need for a true die hard fan of rugby so they will be pleased. I like rugby games due to the exciting and different things to the classic madden games. The flow of the game is really good compared to it's prevoius types 2005 for example. There is also the difficulty level that can be changed to create a much more intense gameplay for those looking for a challenge and those who will have the game for a long time. The levels are - Easy - Easy , Pro - More challenging - Elite - A real game of rugby. This game you will want to keep. Trust me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game 20 Feb 2006
As a fairly casual gamer, but a big rugby fan this game impresses me hugely.
Graphics are great, the animation is superb, and the range of tackles that your guys perform are brilliant, if a little over the top with spear tackles and blokes being thrown over shoulders happening every other tackle.
On the down side - it is difficult to judge a kick outside the 22 so that it bounces before finding touch and some of the players' speed and agility, especially when returning a kick, can be frustrating as they dance through your defence to score a 90 metre try off a restart. However, I've only been playing it for a couple of days, so this is probably more my fault.
The commentary can become a little irritating too but again, that's a minor niggle.
Overall, this is a fantastic rugby game with massive depth (you can pick the England squad from every English player in the Premiership if you so desire), but also plays well if you just want to pick it up for 10 minutes. I'm looking forward to spending far too much time on my PS2 in the next month or so...

5.0 out of 5 stars god this is good 17 Nov 2006
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
im a massive rugby fan, and this game really did impress me.

Good Points

Massive Graphics improvement on rugby 05

AI very good- A computer-controlled Jason Robinson will still go on a very mazy, jinking run

Great attention to detail- Gavin henson's hunched approach to a kick at goal, Jonny Wilkinsons's clenched hands and even Gareth Thomas' trademark head slapping celebration

New things such as high tackles, offloads etc. really make it soooo much better than 05

Bad points

Rucking really needs to be improved, turnovers are just too easy

Slightly over compensating on this impact player thing, Jonny Wilkinsons touch finders are just far too long on this game

overall a flippin' fantastic game, trust me its worth every penny

5.0 out of 5 stars Best rugby game ever 26 Mar 2006
All the people that have given this game a bad review must not taken any time to get to grips with this game because it is very realistic. The controlls are quite hard to learn but once you do it is a rugby experience. I have bought every rugby game that has come out for PS2, and this is easily the best. Much more fun and realistic than challenge 2006.you Many people have been rubbishing the rucks. But I have played this game alot, and if a good rucker gets there first then you will win the ruck, and if you make a break and get isolated you will lose the ball, just like in real life
A must buy game for everyone. Rugby fans or not.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot better them previous rugby games 23 Mar 2006
Thsi game could still do with some imporving but i would recommend it to any rugby fan, have you ever played rugby 2004?, the graphics in rugby 2006 are so much better (never played the 2005 one so i wouldn't know about them) you can actually tell who the players are by there faces sort of on this, goial kicking is a lot easier, only missed a couple so far lol. the rucks can be annoying though, forwards dont get there and the backs don't lin back up. any will give you hours of entertainement, the create a player is a lot better now as you can completely make a new face and not use pre-set ones.

2.0 out of 5 stars rugby 2006 review 25 Sep 2008
Verified Purchase
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
Where do i start with this game, ok the team ratings we'll start with that England they are highly overrated and should be no higher than 75.
The other teams are rated quite acurately. the squads are not entirely accurate when this game was released Charlie hodgson was the England fly half not wilkinson.

Scrummaging - this is a lottery pack weights and scrummaging ability have absolutely no say on your teams ability to win the damn things, rugby 2004 was poor but the scrummaging for me was far superior in that game as the stats decided who was the better scrummagers.

rucks - as people have said before the rucks are just a lottery you win and lose the ball on the computers say so there is no way of competing, its ridiculous as jonah lomu rugby perfected rucks years ago.

goal kicking - the goal kicking is near impossible with kickers below 90 rated kicking ability, also the computer doesnt get effected by the wind at all when kicking yet in high winds your kicker cant kick from more than 30 metres

tackling - it is too difficult to line your men up with the computers players this leads to numerous soft tries

difficulty - despite the things against you it doesnt matter you are never in any danger of losing ive beaten the all blacks by 130 points on numerous occasions as it is too easy to break the line nearly 100% of the time

squads- when playing in tournaments before ive suffered around 13 injured players the computer doesnt allow you to call up reinforcements to help your squad instead you start some games with only a 19 player squad.

Lastly - when you are forced to play players out of position they cant catch the ball which is highly unrealistic.
