Feel the fight with EA Sports UFC

With its first new major sports league partnership in over a decade, EA Sports presents EA Sports UFC. The next-generation of fighting has been built exclusively for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One by the team behind the critically-acclaimed Fight Night franchise.

Powered by EA Sports Ignite technology, EA Sports UFC brings the action, emotion, and intensity inside the Octagon to life in ways that were never before possible. The next-generation of true player motion not only showcases the diverse, powerful, and fluid attacks of elite mixed martial artists through precision movement, dynamic striking, and strategic submission battles, but also brings the combatants to life with a full body deformer and real-time exertion. The simulation of human intelligence takes leaps forward with the strategic and adaptive MMAi system, expressed through the most realistic characters ever created in a sports game.

Changing goals and fight plans
Changing goals and fight plans. view larger

A mixed martial artist's mind is as important as his heart. Every licensed fighter in the game will have changing goals and fight plans, based on their real-life tendencies and each fight situation. Stop their plan A, and they will adapt to plan B or C. Down on the scorecards, look for the AI to end the fight with a knockout or a submission. A smarter opponent equals a more challenging and unpredictable fight.

Full body deformation

Until now, simulation of physical contact between fighters was limited to bodies that barely made contact with each other; as a result, they looked and behaved like action figures made of plastic rather than elite athletes. The team that revolutionised sports by bringing authentic physics to the Fight Night franchise changes the game again with an all-new full body deformation system that moves and displaces the fighter's flesh in real time. For the first time, the strength of every submission and power of every strike will truly make an impression.

Real-time exertion

A UFC bout is one of the most physically demanding sports on the planet, requiring mixed martial artists to give it their all with every movement. Real-time exertion brings each moment of that action to life in your gameplay experience. Through real-time vein popping, skin discolouration, muscle flex, as well as signs of fatigue setting in through the course of each round, you will witness the effort it takes to be one of the best fighters in the world.

Fighter likeness and facial animations

EA Sports UFC sets a new bar for character likeness and emotion in gaming. Every single licensed fighter in the game has been created from high resolution 3D head and body scans to deliver revolutionary character likeness and authenticity. Powered by EA Sports Ignite, new facial animation technology delivers more expression, emotion, and will communicate greater sense of awareness and intelligence in the Octagon

Precision movement

MMA is a sport of inches, where every step counts and every movement matters. Powered by EA Sports Ignite, the precision movement locomotion system grounds the fighters, eliminating unrealistic slipping and sliding across the canvas. More realistic physics-driven movement delivers more realistic action as the overall transfer of energy from the ground up delivers more impactful and believable strikes and takedowns.

Dynamic striking

A mixed martial artist uses the environment to his advantage, and for the first time in a UFC game you can too. A dynamic environment allows you to pull off jaw-dropping moves using the Octagon, including roundhouse kicks, superman punches, and much more. Combine those abilities with the best striking technology in the industry and that one perfect strike could change the fight.

Strategic submission battles

To own the belt, you have to be dominant on your feet and on the mat. EA Sports UFC reinvents the ground game to create a battle for position and control that captures the strategy of a submission battle. Like the real sport, in EA Sports UFC fighters will work through multiple stages as they work to advance or escape from a fight-ending submission.

Real damage

Every fighter knows that one good shot can ruin your day. EA Sports UFC introduces a non-linear damage system which can result in big damage coming from a single strike. The system produces a greater variety of cuts and contusions that is true-to-life and has never been possible in a simulation fighting game.

Bit of background - Im a longtime UFC & Pride fan so I know my onions. (and thats not a cheap shot at Tito or Ken Shamrock btw). Gained black belt in the game (after many humilating defeats which i'll blame game mechanics for hee he.) Played through the career etc. and a fair few fights online.
This is more like a 3 and half rating but im giving it 4 due to the graphics which are excellent. Occassionally you think you're watching the real thing! But this is, sad to say, a typical EA Sports game. I'll explain......The last UFC game I bought was back in 2010 which was great fun against friends but not so much online due to occasional lag (not mine as im on fibre optic) which completely ruins fight games (much like football games) and the single player was fairly ordinary and more like a slog to get through. Anyway, 4 years later and its the same game on a next gen system apart from the aforementioned graphics. Thats crazy!! EA Sports churn out an 'updated' game every single year, covering mostly american sports plus Tiger Woods and Fifa. They update the odd character here and the odd name there and then add one 'amazing' new gimic which will revolutionize the game genre forever - rubbish. They're making an absolute fortune changing very little, on every platform, annually! Thats my EA rant over and as you can appreiciate, I dont buy EA very often.
Back to the game. To be honest, its nearly very good but you have to be methodical and very precise to get anything done and thats not easy and leaves you very frustrated because it feels like your fighter hasnt responded to your commands. Striking's ok and the main thing is your range to cause any real damage. Mashing on the buttons will just get you knocked out.

Ok long review but i have waited two months to post after reviewing in detail and know this - i NEVER post reviews and i am a die hard fan of UFC and MMA as a sport - i have played, still own, and mastered each UFC game to date

Ok so that said let me give these positives as there are some great things i have to acknowledge:-
1) the graphics to this game are insane - realistic isnt the word, the fighters look and act as their real life counterparts, its obvious this is next gen game graphics at its best
2) the UFC have obviously worked very closely with EA on this and many UFC video content and messages and exlusive interviews are shown throughout this game - i usually skip these in games but have found them brilliant and actually relevant to whats happening in the game at this time (not jus a random pick that makes no sense) when i lost - i actually felt Dana was gonna rip me a new one!
3) Ok this is more of a grey area - im 50/50 with this as being positive and negaitive as im pleased in one way but then again its not "quite" there - controls - the control system is better than i expected - i loved the control system in THQs UFC U3 and despite being an EA game the concept of the controls are very similar which is brilliant ! (Buttons sq + tr punches and O + X kicks with R/L 1/2 being variations of the different moves available and analogue controls your grappling) HOWEVER the negative to this is it isnt replicated on the ground!!! (More detail later on this) simply Transitions are barely affected and limited and strikes compared to THQ U3 are really limited and cannot throw different moves e.

2.0 out of 5 stars could have been so much better 4 July 2014
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4|Verified Purchase
I waited and looked forward to this game for so long. unfortunately it did not deliver. it seems as though they spent 2 years working on the graphics and didnt really bother with anything else. the striking is ok but ridiculous at times. the submission system should be changed as it takes far too long to sink in any submission. the only time the cage is used is during the clinch or to strike off from the cage. you cant sprawl properly in the game. you defend the takedown and move away without being able to do any damage. i spent 5 round with pat barry kicking the hell out of big nogs leg, only to find out there wasnt any leg tkos!

theyve missed out so many fighters on this game. Krausse is in there but no barbosa or gonzaga?

The career mode is very boring. you start on tuf, you fight in the ufc, you win the belt, you get offered one superfight if you hold the belt long enough, and then you retire. no pride, no moving divisions, nothing! id say by around your 28-30th fight you probably have the perfect fighter. every stat is perfect, youve purchased every move. so whats the point?

onyl reason i give it 2 stars is because of the graphics. other than that its a poor attempt at a game. i have sold mine after 2 weeks

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart-pounding, Body-shaking Mixed Martial Arts 24 Jan. 2015
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4|Verified Purchase
The re-awakening of EA's UFC titles - simply titled EA Sports UFC. The title isn't the only thing that's simple. EA has pared back almost everything in the game, meaning the game doesn't provide much in the ways of alternative game modes - this is somewhat disappointing, of course. But, you can't stay disappointed for long.

Although somewhat buggy, EA have turned the combat system in this game into pure art. Punches feel meaty, kicks are spine-shattering. You'll not only see characters wince in pain, you'll also see the point of contact ripple, muscles twitch and sweat fly. There are some quirks, but in general the game is extremely well animated and controls are excellent.

In the campaign you'll be rail-roaded through a bunch of fights eventually leading to a title shot. If you lose your title you'll be offered repeat attempts and finally a fight with the top fighter in another weight division - known as a superfight. In between matches you can partake in training mini-games to enhance your character to help them better survive fights - to better survive their career. The final nail in the coffin for your fighter is the accumulation of damage over the course of your career. You can't just run in and smash the punch button until the opponent falls, you need to be more tactical. You need to block the small hits and dodge the big ones. This helps make the campaign mode fun and re-playable as you may not achieve your goals first time around.

One strange thing I found is that you can create your own character - but only if it's male. This wouldn't be so strange if they hadn't already included female fighters in the game - they have, you just can't create one.

All-in, this is an excellent UFC Video Game and I can only look forward to how it is expanded upon in the next entry.
