Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Medal of Honor was an accomplished game by all standards, and does everything to remind us what all the hype was about. This time, you play Manon, a young French Resistance girl who is aching to get some action against the oppressing German invaders.

Medal of Honor: Underground is not simply a collection of further levels--there has been some thought and careful re-working to bring new features to the game. The environment is now more interactive, so more things react to being shot at, and you also get to go on co-operative missions with other allies. The overall level of AI has been improved so the enemy is now more responsive and will react to your fire accordingly. There is a new range of weapons for Manon to use, but overall they have the same effect as the original.

The sound is also highly impressive; the footsteps of approaching guards seem to echo off every wall and the multilingual shouts add to a very encompassing gaming environment. The first-person view and controls are the same as the predecessor, which are simple and easy to get the hang of while using the analogue stick to control the speed of your movement is noteworthy and extremely effective task to master.

Perhaps the only shortcoming of the game lies in the visual presentation: the gameplay graphics are impressive and clear, but cannot match that of the more powerful consoles. There are still a few problems with the polygon mapping, but nothing that detracts from the playability of the game. Overall, Medal of Honor: Underground has all the glory of its predecessor and is just as addictive. If you are a fan of first-person shooters, Medal of Honor: Underground is about the best that the PlayStation has to offer. --Chris Hall

Vive la resistance! 11 Jan 2002

Format:Video Game
From the opening screens it's obvious that once again EA have been doing they're History homework. Medal of Honor Underground puts you in the position of a tough female resistance operative, charged with infiltrating various Nazi strongholds throughout Europe and North Africa. From the first level, the atmosphere of the game is both intimidating and engaging. The back drop graphics are exceptionally moody and dark, and the sound effects and background noises are some of the best and most accurate I have ever heard in a first person shooter-bullets crack and whizz over your head, and automatic weapons make a convincing rattle. But the real character of the game is the AI of the computer enemies. They assualt you in the way a real group of WW2 soldiers would: moving in twos, giving each other covering fire and throwing grenades which have yet to explode back at you. The Nazis you face take bullet wounds with chilling authenticity, and the game boasts an interesting selection of weapons, including molotov cocktails and a crossbow. Going undercover is the finest point aspect of the game-sneaking into nazi bases posing as a photographer, chatting up an officer or two and then dispatching them with a silenced pistol is exhilarating fun. Not for kids!

I can't get enough of this game, Medal of Honor 1 was the most addictive stress relieving shoot em up I'd ever played, and this improves on that! The atmosphere of the game is intense, with the brilliant music score adding to the eerie, scary and exciting world of combat. The levels get more difficult as the game progresses and the use of vehicles in this game is a nice touch. The sidecar level is a blast as is the satisfaction of a headshot with the clinking noise as gerry's helmet is no more! My only gripe is the dog level, the whole of the game (and the first title)had a degree of historical accuracy to it, but on this level you're fighting dogs with machine guns, bazookas etc!! What's all that about? It disapoints on an otherwise exceptional game. With games like this still being made for PS1, I won't be paying ... for a PS2 just yet.

Fun:
This game is much the same as its predecessor, the excellent 'Medal of Honor'. The settings are new and there's plenty to be getting on with, but the basics of the game have not changed much. The graphics look a little bit better perhaps, but it's essentially more of the same. Good stuff, for sure! And so atmospheric - some of the best sound effects I've heard in a game, even by today's standards.
