Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
Control the running game like never before with Madden NFL 07. For the first time ever, step up as the lead blocker to create a hole, then take control of the tailback and smash through, overpower, or slash away from would-be tacklers as you fight for every yard. Innovative rushing controls give you a game-breaking ground attack featuring all-new jukes, cutbacks, and the distinct running styles of your favourite backs. Between the tackles or in the open field, run to daylight with Madden NFL 07.

Key Features:
Lead Block Through the Lanes
For the first time ever, control the lead blocker on running plays. Throw the perfect block to create a running lane, then take control of the tailback and rip off the big gain.

NFL Superstar: Hall of Fame Mode
Play your way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame by taking complete control of any position on the field. Your actions on and off the field determine your impact on the game.

Run Like the Players Run
Use the all-new Highlight Stick to evade defenders with new jukes, cutbacks, and power moves. Smaller backs escape and break tackles, while bigger runners bowl over defenders in the open field.

New Franchise Mode Additions
Scout collegiate prospects with the all-new NFL Draft Scouting System and during the College All-Star Game, or watch players impact their teams with the new Franchise Player Roles feature.

Team-Specific Defensive Playbooks
For the first time, use actual plays from your favourite team's defensive playbook to shut down the running game, pressure the quarterback, or force key turnovers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good,but Isn't the Best, 11 Feb 2007

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I have played this game at a friends recently and borrowed it for a couple of weeks. The game is full of detail, but not in both areas. For example:When you are playing the actual game itself, there is all sorts of different things you can initiate and influence to help you win...this ranges from picking your play when on the offensive or using the HIT STICK to bring down the opposite number. All of this is what brings the game to life and makes it such a good game. However, the reason why I have given the game an average rating is because, the level of detail outside the actual gameplay is scarce. The career(FRANCHISE)is poorly set out and difficult to understand and therefore navigate around;especially when you are British and do not follow American Football at all. This game is fun,if you know nothing about the game or are the best and know about every tiny detail, you really will like it.Trust me.Just make sure you are not wasting your money on it because you may soon realise you are wasting your money by soon becoming bored of playing the game.If you know anyone with this game, play it with them for a while or even borrow it...if that is unsucssesful, rent it from your local blockbuster for a couple of days first. This game is great but can be complicated and begin to get boring!Reccommended but take my advice and TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Defitite Improvement, 6 Sep 2006
By T. Roberts "A Very Amature Critic" (Cardiff) - See all my reviews

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Last years version disapointed me, as it seemed to be little more than a roster update of 2005. This IS different. The lead blocker feature seems clumsy, but it really works, and is tremendous fun. They have completely re-vamped Superstar mode and it no longer feels like an afterthought (the agrevating 'voicemails' from Terrel Davies are also gone). The influence system is a wonderful representation of how one players performance can lift an entire team.

The rookie scouting system in Franchise mode has also got some much needed additions (it's been the same since before 2003!).

The graphics are fairly similar to previous versions- still exellent- and the tackles seem to get more realistic each year.

The music is terrible (personal taste), and the comentary is still wooden, but the game play is top notch, even if it does take alot of practice to get all the keyboard assignments 'automatic'.

I have found that its generally only worth buying a Madden title every 2 years, and this has strengthened this feeling- This is the game that 2006 should have been.

4.0 out of 5 stars The next in the line... but is it getting better or worse?, 3 Dec 2006

I think with most sporting games, developers have the same problem every time; how exactly do you improve a game that's virtually been taken to its limits. You notice this in Pro Evo Soccer and in Fifa and it's become abundantly evident in the Madden series. After all, besides improving the mechanics of controlling your team and updating the roster (perhaps some aesthetics in the menu screens) it starts to get a bit annoying for potential buyers. Having to fork out £30+ for nothing more than an updated version is actually more rage inducing than annoying.

For those new to buying Madden games this is definitely a worthwhile purchase (as they all are for your first time,) but be prepared you'll then be jumping on the wagon of people who are unsatisfied with the improvements placed upon the latest games (if you chose to buy more).
Madden 07' is really no different to 05' and 06', sure there's a few new bits to play with (as will be discussed later), but is it really enough?
I can fully relate to EA, as I know I would also find it hard to think of new angles when the essential element, being able to play American Football, was covered back in 94' (or whenever Madden started it). Adding new spins, turns and tackles for the offence and defence is a given nowadays, as is better graphics, but its no great thing. So it's quite refreshing to see a new angle placed on the game, namely the Superstar: Hall Of Fame mode. This mode allows you to create-a-player but also choose who your parents are (as in what sort of athletic/IQ level genes they passed on to you), you can also choose your position (Wide Receiver, Quarterback etc) and the college you graduated from. After your initial practice training (and various interviews and an IQ test) you get drafted to a team. Once in this team you will get to play your role (say a wide receiver) and follow routes to catch the ball and run big yards. This puts the emphasis of playing the game as one particular player rather than the whole team. As you get better you'll get more famous (get roles in films etc) with your eventual goal being an induction into the Hall Of Fame.

What's intriguing about the Hall Of Fame mode is it really gives the player the chance to experience some of the frustration and joy of individual roles and their impact on the entire team (through the use of an influence meter). Simply put, the better you play the better your team will perform and vice-versa. You can also develop your player's out-of-game attitude by demanding interviews and belittling your opponents etc.
However, that's the only truly new/exciting part of Madden 07' and really could do with some improvements, fortunately the potential is definitely there. As for the usual suspects, Franchise mode, Trainings etc, well its all pretty much what I've come to expect, nothing new. The graphics are a bit better, the players move a little smoother and things are a little trickier to get to grips with but on the whole, and I guess this is the biggest influence on Madden's success, it's still fun. The only gripe I really have is the `glitches' or slow-down in game play as the PS2 desperately tries to read the disc, its not much but it slows down the momentum of your game play.

In Madden's defence, at least it's trying to add new angles to its tried and tested formula (take note Pro Evo) and is coming out the better for it. However there is still a while to go before they can justify bringing out a new title at £30+ without the same frustrated cries of "seen it all before!" from us NFL fans.
