Fun:
this is the only boxing game which is actually a boxing not a fighting game. you can either stalk people and knock them out, stand infront of them and counterpunch with lateral movement or stick and move as the footwork mobility of this game has never been matched by any EA follow up since and i include fight night champion! the graphics look the decade plus that they are but that is the only tiny gripe. three general weight classes light, middle and heavy which have great names like alexis arguello, aaron pryor, ray mancini, genaro hernandez, arturo gatti, shane mosley, pernell whittiker, roberto duran, marvin hagler, terry norris, sugar ray leonard, oscar de la hoya, evander holyfield, muhammed ali, larry holmes, leon spinks, ray mercer, lennox lewis and several more. carreer mode is good but when you win the title you only do a rematch then 3 defences wich i look at as winning the wbc, wba, ibf, and wbo titles. if you have a ps2(cant save it) and love boxing get this.

This isn't the fastest boxing game on the market. Some of the action can appear ponderous at times but for realism I don't think it has ever been bettered.

There is a real art here. On subsequent versions of this game - particularly Boxing 2000 - you can simply bludgeon your way to victory with a boxer who rates highly with power. Here, you have to pick your punches more carefully. You waste energy at your peril.

Real fans of boxing will find this game a pleasing antidote to the dreadful plethora of caricature frantic scrapping games that have been released since.

The commentary is good and you can re-live many classic moments in Boxing history such as Sugar Ray Leonard outclassing the so called Marvellous Marvin Hagler back in 1987. He couldn't live with Leonard that night!

My only gripe is the absence of some of the greats from the list of names - Foreman, Hearns, Tyson, Bowe, Robinson and the trio of British middleweights - Eubank, Benn and Watson.

But that's nothing. This game will live on, long after the shoot em up neanderthals have got bored with Boxing 2000.

Many hours of fun here on this one. Three weight categories (lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight) are offered to fight in. Loads of famous boxers to fight with too, (but not in career mode) in exhibition fights and also slugfests! In the career mode you design your own fighter(although with fairly limited options) and then make your way to the ring to try and climb the world of boxing's ladder. Good playablity and probably the best boxing game I've played. Well worth a look if you've got the cash.
