The raft of changes that has been added to this version of Knockout Kings includes a new way to throw punches, aptly called Dynamic Punch Control. This feature allows you to control and put together punch combinations to try and outwit the other fighters you face. The limitless combinations add a new level of replayability to the title that didn't exist in previous instalments of the series.
You can create dream bouts, using some of the best boxers the world has ever seen. The lineup includes Smoking Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali, marvellous Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano and Julio Cesar Chavez. Better yet, put them up against some of boxing's current stars like Oscar De La Hoy, Lennox Lewis, or Michael Grant.
EA Sports has left no stone unturned when it comes to the sweet science of boxing. New fighting styles now allow gamers to create boxers with attacks that mimic those of boxing legends, such as Ken Norton's "Crab" style or Rocky Marciano's "Slugger" style. --Todd Mowatt

This game ROCKS! EA have yet again done their homework and pulled out yet another classic guaranteed to start many a rumble in your own living room (and others). The realism is the game is pretty damn good, with each boxer's style and attributes near-perfectly presented, from the legendary lighweights right through the classic middleweights of the '70/80's and heavyweights both old and new, though we could have done with Tyson, Hearns and Foreman, as well as our very own Barry McGuigan, who provides his cheeky commentary during some of the most famous title bouts of all time. Original arenas are carefully recreated to provide the stage for some of the meanest matchups history never gave us! An obligatory hip hop soundtrack booms throughout, with a workable, crafted menu system guiding one around the range of customization and options from key rules, to training and developing your fighter's skills and deficiences as your work towards defending that hard-earned crown. The presentation is usual, formulaic EA style.Playability can also be a little slow and frustrating (particularly with those heavingweights) but the simulation still runs smoothly without. Definitely one to tucked away for any true boxing fan.

Knockout Kings 2001,
This review is from: Knockout Kings 2001 (PS2) (Video Game)
This edition to the series is the best yet( not including KOK2002,as I have not yet played on it).It is also a deeper and more realistic game than any of the other boxing titles, such as Prince Nasseem Boxing,or any of the ready2rumbles. This is partly due to its official licence and to its developers EA,which i would like to thank for making this game and i am looking forward to playing KOK2002.However i think it could be improved further by more fluent movement and more varieties of punches which i think can be achieved on the PS2 and Xbox for the KOK2002 edition.

The best boxing game yet, quite easily in fact. The graphics, as you would expect from EA, are superb, and some of the fighters look a lot like they do in real life. But, some of them look a bit lacklustre. Big Frank Bruno for instance doesn't look like his real self, and nor for that matter does Muhammed Ali. Another annoying thing is the amount of times it has to load stuff. What is really silly though is that the boxers don't come in like boxers....Its like a scene from that pantomine they call the WWF! EA should have made the boxer come down to the ring with his manager and team, as well as wearing a hood. Another thing which dissapoints the boxing fan is the lack of some of the most fearsome names in boxing. Most of them are there, but EA has left out a few greats, George Foreman being the obvious example. But also, Mike Tyson and Tim Witherspoon would have been good. It amazes me that Bruno got in to the game, but not a legend like Foreman, and Tyson in his prime, was invincible. Henry Cooper would have been a good fighter to put in. Oh well, I guess its something to improve on for the next one. Enough of my moaning, because there are many good aspects of the game. The fighters get realistic looking cuts and bruises, and sometimes their whole eye can close up because of the punishment. This is great stuff, but on a more negative note, the faces look kind of robotic and mechanical. Another thing which gets to me is the fact that you have to knock an opponent down 20 times before you actually knock him out. This is unrealistic (apart from the case of Marciano, who I believe had the best spirit and determinaion the fight game has ever seen. He was a jolly nice bloke aswell, apparently!) For all the faults I've pointed out, the game is still a die-hard must for ALL boxing fans. Once you get the controls, it is great enjoyment for any gamer, but I think that the boxing fan will thoroughly enjoy it more than anyone. But as I said, improvements are there to be made..........................and a request from me to EA.....PLEASE TAKE THAT COMEDY ACT BUTTERBEAN OUT!! Replace him with our Henry, who was a tremendous fighter.
