I've sometimes found FIFA Street games to be a mixed bag, but the promise of varying game modes making the game play less repetitive, I thought I'd give this one a go, and overall I'm glad I did.
The same FIFA street game play is there, the game is heavily focused on using tricks to get round players and favours the attacking team as you'd expect. It flows quickly and the (by default) sort games never feel like they drag. The 'World Tour' mode is nicely set out and varys the type of game that you play by tournament/event between 2v2, elimination, 5v5, futsol etc. The difficulty increases steadily and the game offers enough in game 'carrots' to get you to try and improve, or just do it one level higher.
The team you have is fully customisable, appearances, names, etc, although typing using the normal xbox controller is its usual drag.
Graphically, it's maybe a little cartoony, but given the OTT nature of the moves the players do this feels right. There's a decent selection of places to play with distinct looks. I can only imagine the numbers of balls I've lost into a canal in Venice!
Sound wise, it's quite basic, music plays instrumentally through the games, but the track listing is limited. You can get bored of hearing the quite samey shouts as the game goes on too. Varying the voice over by which country you're playing in was nice too.
It can sometimes, particularly in tournaments when playing little known/made up players feel like you're playing the same game over and over, which obviously feels a little repetitive and can detract from the fun. But in fairness that's the nature of a football game!
Once you've learnt a few tricks and can do some impressive looking stuff on screen, FIFA Street is a fun game, maybe a little lightweight. But if you're looking for a game you can pick up and have a bit of fun with, this could be it.
