Amazon.co.uk Review

The greatest battle of the new football season is not between any real world club but between the virtual giants of FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer. Konami’s game has always been the favourite but last year FIFA closed the gap to such a degree that the title race has never been closer. This year’s FIFA uses a completely new game engine, for the first time built specifically for the next gen consoles. But improved graphics and animation are only the half of it, with just as much focus going on the artificial intelligence thanks to the new "35 point decision engine". What this basically means is that every player on the pitch is fully aware of those around him and constantly thinking about tactics and position when not under your control.

Other changes include better modelled physics for taking a shot on goal, which take into account everything from air pressure to the angle of your foot. You’re also able to create your own special moves to replicate every possible trick from real life. There are also new game modes including Be A Pro which challenges you to play the role of a single player through a whole season or career. On top of this there are revamped online leagues to play a virtual season in the Premier League, Bundesliga, French League or Mexican 1st Division against real opponents. With 620 licensed teams, 30 offline leagues and 15,000 players as well FIFA might just have made enough new signings this year to put it over the top.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait and the money, 30 Sep 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
If you already own a Wii then there is no point in thinking about all the other console versions. You've made your choice and you pretty much know what you're getting & what the limitations are. Once you've done this, you realise that the Fifa 08 Wii game is what you have been waiting months for and it doesn't let you down. Sure, the controls are hard to master initially - but there are so many options available, and there is always the simple mode where you only worry about passing/shooting. But persevere with the advanced mode and you will soon revel in the control you have over the players. Sure, there is the party mode which is not really the spirit of Fifa, but who cares, if you don't like it then don't use it - after all its just a bit of fun and is certainly in the spirit of the Wii itself. Overall, highly addictive and well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!, 2 Oct 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
People keep complaining about the lack of manager mode, edit or create team or be a pro. So What! I know It would have been good but not all things are greener on the other side. The Xbox 360 Version has all that and the game play is very poor and the pace of the game is slow and boring.
The Wii version beats it by miles. I would rather play a game of football thats more entertaining and different to a game that is just the same each year with a few extra quirks.
Waving your wii remote around doing tricks and scoring from 30 yards seems more satisfying that just pressing a button.
Other people also mention that the camera angle is poor and you can't change it.
Maybe those people should check the settings before writing a review complaining about something they obviously dont know anything about.
The camera angle is the same as all other Fifa games with the choice of camera height and zoom.

You can't buy or sell players in this game but if your a toffee like me and would like to see Ronaldinho in an Everton shirt then all you need to do is go into the options and choose transfers. Transfers are very easy and are unlimited. Now Everton are the best team in the world and we didn't need Abramovich millions....

You can compete in all the major leagues and cups from around the world and earn points by completing certain goals. These points can go towards unlocking more grounds, shirts, boots and other accessories.

I hope this review has been helpful and you enjoy the game as much as I am.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some People Just Don't Get It...., 30 Sep 2007
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I agree with an earlier reviewer....some people just don't seem to 'get' the Wii. For many years I was an ardent gamer...then I just grew out of it (shock horror, cue people hurling abuse). I decided to buy a Wii as it would be something fun for my wife and I to enjoy and when friends come over. As such, I don't see the disappointment with FIFA. I couldn't care less about the management side of things (I have management games on my PC), I'm only interested in picking up a footie game that I can play with friends etc. FIFA achieves this and more. It plays well (after the intial adjustment to Wii controls) and looks good. To all the whingers I ask: Why buy a flamin' Wii in the first place???
