Product Description

Product Description

In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game's 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC.

Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests, in some of the most notorious hot spots around the world. Each map in Battlefield 2 adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle-to-player ratio and an optimized game play experience. Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their team mates. With in-game success, players increase their rank from recruit all the way to General and unlock awards, including new weapons, vehicle decals, medals, and more.

Additionally, Battlefield 2 showcases an all-new game engine and physics system to bring the modern battlefield to life like never before. The new material penetration feature measures weapons' ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive.

"A future classic, destined to be responsible for many wasted nights in the year ahead 5/5" -- The Times

5.0 out of 5 stars What a game! 9 Nov. 2005
By JonSon
Well, my attached title kind of says it all really. This is the game that all players of the first person shooter genre should aspire to own. I bought it in advance of a new PC I had ordered and wasn’t disappointed in the slightest – it was the first game I played and am still playing to this day with alarming frequency.
I must make one admission – I haven’t played the single player version of the game yet, as the online multiplayer function is totally engrossing. So taking this into consideration, I’m only going to comment on the on-line experience.
In a nutshell: The game takes the form of a battle played out by two opposing sides on a variety of maps. You choose which side you wish to fight for (USA, China or Middle Eastern Coalition – depending on map) and then you have the option of playing as one of seven different soldier classes, each with individual weapons and attributes: Special Forces, Sniper, Assault, Support, Engineer, Medic and Anti-Tank.
Once in-game and on the battlefield, you have a host of vehicles (Humvees, helicopters, fighter planes, tanks, APC’s – the list goes on) at your disposal to help you achieve your main goal of capturing flags while wiping out the opposition in the quickest and most tactically sound way possible.
To begin with, you’ll probably find yourself on the receiving end of a barrage of bullets and bombs, as the competition is fierce and the action unrelenting. The beauty of the game however, is the fact that after no time at all, you’ll be ambushing and assaulting like the rest of them.
From a personal perspective, the main appeal of the game lies in the communal aspect that has developed around the Battlefield series.

5.0 out of 5 stars WoW 4 Dec. 2005
Ive had BF2 for a while now, and if it wasnt for a bad net connection, i would be on it know, hence this review!
To put it simply, its about the best game I own. If you like teamwork e.t.c, buy it now.
There are loads of different soldier types to choose, from snipers to support gunners, and each of these have different weapons to be unlocked. The ranking system is great too, you can see how you compare with BF2 player from around the globe. You are also awarded medals for your performance, and you can progress through the ranks, from private to sergeant e.t.c.
Vehicle wise, there are loads, from buggies to fast jets. The aircraft can be a little frustrating at first, but once you get the hang of them, they are great fun.
When playing the game, you can either go "lone wolf", or join a squad within you main team. When in a squad, you can use a microphone to talk to your team-mates, which makes the game alot more fun, especailly if you need help, or spot an enemy unit! The team can also have an overall commander, who gives out orders to the squad leaders to carry out objectives e.t.c.
Graphics wise, its stunning. This is the first game I have played where camoflage actually works. The snipers have ghillie suits, and you can be feet away from someone, but they cannot see you! The water looks amazing, especially the wash from helicopters, and the reflection of the sun. But, these graphics come at a price. I think that the specs on the box are a little too low for what you actually need. My system is at least double on every factor, but I cant run it on full graphics e.t.c. Before you buy, make sure your graphics card is supported by the game though, as it is a bit picky on what cards it can run on. Check BF2's website for more info.
Like I said at the begining, I cant get enough of this game, its just brilliant.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent online FPS, but not perfect! 15 Aug. 2005
By Neoico
I came across this game while I was engrossed in Counter Strike, and I've got to say it offers a huge scope of gameplay. Graphically its great and the freedom to choose your class, medic, sniper, engineer, etc. And to drive a variety of vehicles form boats to tanks to fighter jets, although be warned the jets and helicopters take a little getting use to. The choice to fight in squads or on your own is a good addition and if you don't want to fight you can always try to take command and lead your army to victory RTS style.
But it's not without its faults, you need a high spec machine to run the game well and if you ever get stuck in a APC or humvee with a player with high lag driving you'll know about it! Generally people are unwilling to fight as part of a team, preferring to kill everything in sight and ask questions later.
Overall a great game but with some issues remaining, the single player offline mode is pretty limited and unless you have high speed broadband I would think again before buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dream of an online FPS 18 Nov. 2005
This game is perfect in every aspect.
The classes of soldiers to choose from, the vehicles you can drive and the awards you can win all add up to an awesome game! There are unlockable weapons from the already impressive set of about 40, and you can get promoted for fighting well. Also, you can gain medals for certain achievments such as being a skillful parachutist or an excellant sniper. I also would like to note that the graphics are just sweet.
The gameplay is fun, addictive, and there nothing as satisfying as emptying a clip into an unsuspecting enemy raider, or bringing down a maurading bomber with the USA's aircraft carrier SAM missiles, or blowing an enemy jeep with a T-92 tank. There is a balanced variety of maps each with its advantages for each soldier type. For example, when in the compact Strike at Karkand I can advise you try the Medic class to heal your mates who will be dropping like flies, or on a map such as Kubra Dam there are some perfect sniper's positions and you can rack up personell kills rapidly. Darjing Oilfields is an excellant map for dogfights and strafing using the aircraft at your disposal.
Providing you have a good enough PC, then what are you waiting for?
If you are not going to buy this game then start checking for a pulse.
