2.0 out of 5 stars Clunky, crashing waste of time, 3 Aug 2008

I returned this game after it crashed repeatedly - and the 1.5 patch did absolutely none of what it was supposed to. Also, the interface is unhelpful, the intructions are really poor and my relatively powerful Intel Mac struggled even to change between menu screens quickly - loading times are a nightmare. The fact that you reload your guns with a ludicrously casual slowness takes away from the realism somewhat, when you're under fire but putting new bullets in as if sitting on a comfy sofa with a Pez dispenser.

However, some of the action within the tiny, repetetive maps is quite cool. Buy it if you want all this sluggish, pompous EA obligatory account sign-up nonsense with a teaspoon of actual gameplay, I'm going elsewhere. Sadly, the Mac is badly served for 3D shooty fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars 2142 review, 21 April 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Battlefield 2142 (Mac DVD) (DVD-ROM)
The most irritating thing about this game is that it crashes repeatedly - often when you are in the middle of a good session! At least it still saves your game data.

In have uploaded all recent fixes etc but game still crashes.

Worthwhile and fun especially if you have a group of fellow users to team up with.

3.0 out of 5 stars Runs poorly, no campaign., 17 May 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Battlefield 2142 (Mac DVD) (DVD-ROM)
Firstly I would like to say that I have a 2.5 ghz macbook pro, nVidia geforce 8600m gt 256 mb vram and 2GB Ram. The game runs with the graphics set to medium and resolution set to 1440 x 900 (native) but the graphics are by no means impressive. In fact I would say that they are worse than the free first person shooter Assault Cube. It is particularly aggravating that this game has less than adequate graphics particularly on a macbook pro. Compared to something like quake 4, they don't match up; quake has much more detailed textures, physics and lighting. Also I was a little disappointed to find out there is no campaign, just instant action, which leaves one a little confused as there is no training or real instructions; you just get to choose single player with about 5 maps or online multiplayer which means I have to turn down my resolution down, otherwise it lags. I would only recommend this game if you have a powerful Mac Pro or hi-spec iMac and you want a fast paced but somewhat pointless game with no story line.
