We, like everyone else, own a big vacuum cleaner and also a small hand held one. Then we came across this fantastic 2-in-1 from Electrolux. It is basically a solid rechargeable hand-held unit that is nested in the side of a lightweight standup unit. So standing up, you can wiz around picking up dirt and crumbs with a very maneuverable carpet-cleaner-like head. Then you can detach the small hand-held unit to get at all those odd places. So-basically the stand-up bit is like a big accessory to the hand-held unit. The whole thing then just stands on a base to get re-charged. They claim 18 minutes autonomy, but we have never tested it because we use it for 5-10 minutes and then put it back on its recharging stand. The capacity is limited because it is fixed by the size of the hand-held unit, but it opens and cleans easy, and it has a good cloth filter inside that can be washed. It also has a so-called evacuation lid in the hand-held unit, but we never use it. I have seen them in a nice Cayenne colour and also in a kind of light green colour. The impression in the hand is that it is solid and well made. I can wholehearted recommend this Electrolux unit, it is solidly built and really is a perfect hybrid vacuum cleaner when you don't have, or don't want to get out and unfold, a big vacuum cleaner. We found our one in Spain, but it is not a common item on shop shelves. So buying on the Internet is a great idea, and it comes as 3-4 pieces in a box and takes about 2 minutes to put together.

Fabulous! 27 Mar 2008

What a fabulous household gadget: 2 in 1 cleaner, super light weight, cordless, quick recharge and it gets into all those awkward places around/under the furniture. It also picks up pet hair no problem, so it's very handy when guests are coming around and the sofas need a quick defuzzing! I found that it is very useful for doing stairs too. I think every home should have one, especially if you have hard floors. Go on, make life a little easier, buy one.

I wanted a lightweight rechargeable cleaner mainly to whip over my tiled staircase as it is always a pain to trail the mains up 4 floors. This is a fantastic cleaner allowing me to use it either as the full cleaner (which I now use on most of my tiled floors) as well as just using the handheld portion to get right into the corners of my staircase. The only thing I would say is that it does struggle a little on rugs or carpet, but then I don't think its intended particularly for this use. As far as the battery life goes - well like the previous reviewer I have not been able to kill the battery so far. I am also very impressed with what it manages to collect - we have just experienced a deluge of pine tree pollen and it has even picked this up. Well Done to Electrolux.
