Product Description

Clean floors and more with the Electrolux AirSpeed ZAS1000A bagless upright vacuum. Sacrificing cleaning performance for a lower price is over. The new Airspeed bagless upright vacuum is designed to move a higher volume of air to remove more dirt. As a result, this vacuum removes more than just the dirt you can see. With 1900W of power and a lightweight frame, the Electrolux bagless upright vacuum is the obvious choice for any home. With Airspeed technology you control the suction as you can divert the suction power to the floor or the hose. AirSpeed also has smooth wall, large diameter tubes and limited bends. This allows much more air to pass through the cleaner versus a typical upright. These features mean that Airspeed can offer a better, deeper clean – perfect for carpets. Airspeed is bagless and has Whirlwind Cyclonic technology which maintains suction power for longer and separates large debris from fine dust, resulting in less maintenance. The HEPA filter removes up to 99.97 percent of all allergens for cleaner home and the turbo-powered stair and upholstery brush removes dust, allergens and pet hair from upholstery backs and stairs. Cleaning those hard to reach areas is easy thanks to the deluxe stretch hose with wand which provides 2.5m of reach to remove dirt from all surfaces. The Electrolux AirSpeed ZAS1000A weights 7.9 kg and also features on-board tool storage for an upholstery and dusting brush and crevice tool, 8.2m cord, anti tip design and easy to empty dust bin with one-touch release. Getting started is easy as there are no tools required to assemble the Electrolux bagless upright vacuum.

This really sucks! 25 Oct 2011

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
A sleek, powerful and stylish vacumn cleaner with some really well designed features. There is some assembley out of the box required, half a dozen pieces or so, a couple of which are a tad fiddly; a couple of the plastic pieces need a bit of force to snap into place but it is otherwise relatively straightforward.
The cord does not get drawn into the machine by a mechanism which is present in a lot of modern vacumns, instead it loops around the back of the appliance which presumably lessens weight and bulk; the vacumn is very ergonomically designed and the cord, hose and wand all store very compactly together at the rear.
It's an upright vacumn and to start the vacumn there is a nicely placed raised pedal which just requires a slight press of the foot. Likewise to cahnge the angle of the cleaner there is a separate pedal lower down.
You have the option of either using it as a traditional push along the floor vacuming surfaces or by moving a dial switching to the hose. The hose itself is of a good length and the hose comes in two parts (not obvious at first) one on top of the other which can be separated and attached length to length to form a really good extension enabling ceiling corners, unit tops etc to be accessed with the crevice attachment in place.
The suction itself is so powerful. I vacumned an area which had previously been vacumned with a different cleaner and couldn't believe how much dust and cat hair was drawn up out of a clean looking carpet. There is another dial at the front to transfer between short pile and long pile (with two unspecified actions in between) though I haven't had need to use the long pile and couldn't see any noticeable movement/difference underneath when switching between the two. The suction is so strong that the vacumn can feel quite heavy when using the push it along the floor function; it does wheel along nicely though.
The filter is nice and easy to clean with a handy brush that is provided and can be washed also and the unit comes equipped with a spare belt, dusting brush (furniture, drapes and vents) and aforementioned crevice tool which clip on brilliantly at the back and a turbo nozzle (furniture and stairs) which attaches unobtrusively by magnet at the front. It doesn't come with a bare floor nozzle which I believe you can send off for separately but you already get a lot of bang for your buck with what it does provide. Very asthetically pleasing as well in silver with a midnight blue dustbin. Great product.

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I got this as a replacement to an Electrolux Vitesse 1800w bagless vacuum and have been very pleased with it. It's a bagless vertical vacuum cleaner which otherwise works in a similar way to a traditional bag vacuum. Compared to its predecessor, it is much better built (I don't have the hose separating itself from the base any more since there is a switch to choose between suction via the base and via the hose), it seems a lot better at sucking up dust (perhaps unfair since the other one is old), and the dust collection splits into two sections appearing to make better use of filters. It's also still much cheaper than the Dyson equivalent. Oh yeah, and it's got a longer power lead than either the Dyson or the old Electrolux. The two foot pedals for power and changing the angle are still a bit close to each other but no big deal.

Vacuum cleaners are the sorts of things you buy once, use them and completely forget about it until there's a burning smell or the suction just doesn't work. From first impressions this is an excellent vacuum cleaner and based on previous experience of Electrolux I would definitely recommend it, both as an improvement on its previous model (albeit some generations back I suspect) but also as a lower cost alternative to the Dysons of the world.

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I don't normally use an upright vacuum cleaner, although I did evaluate one a few months ago. That one did have some pros, but also had some cons, so wasn't for me. I thought I'd try this Electrolux ZAS1000A Airspeed Pet Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner instead, to see if it would be right for me (and ideally for my better half, so that I might do slightly less vacuuming!).

When the Electrolux arrives, it needs to be assembled by the recipient. The instructions are adequate. For a while, I thought there was a piece missing, only to find that two of the tubes/pipes were delivered one inside the other. Once I had realised that (it wasn't obvious), assembly was simple enough.

In use, this Electrolux is a bit cumbersome and difficult to manoeuvre. However, it makes up for that by doing a very good job on carpets. Just make sure you specify the right pile depth, otherwise you'll find half of your carpet inside the vacuum cleaner. I like bagless vacuum cleaners, but if you do too much vacuuming without emptying this one, you may find it difficult to empty because of the design.

Where this cleaner (as delivered) isn't so good is when you move away from carpets and onto vinyl, or when you use the tools to vacuum surfaces, nooks and crannies etc. Our utility room gets treated as a boot room, with quite a lot of mud walked in, getting dropped onto the vinyl. With this vacuum cleaner, a lot of the mud just gets flicked backwards from underneath the cleaner to where you are likely to be standing. I tried various options, but in the end reverted to a long-handled brush and/or my old Miele vacuum cleaner to clean it up - the Electrolux as delivered couldn't cope (I believe you can purchase another head separately that will presumably resolve this , but IMHO this really should be included).

Other than that, the loop handle is fairly comfortable, the power cord a metre or two shorter than I would have liked (but that's fairly typical), the pedals for locking the tilt and for turning power on and off are both really well implemented, the tube length is a bit short. The plastic feels a bit cheap, but I'm sure it's designed to last a reasonable period if looked after.

So, to summarise - this Electrolux is very good on carpet, if a bit cumbersome. However, on vinyl and for other cleaning, it is not so good (although the vinyl issue may be solved by purchasing another component). I'll be keeping it and using it for the carpets, but I'll also keep hold of my old Miele for vinyl and surfaces.

Good alternative to a Dyson
As with most upright vacuum cleaners these days, you have to build it before you can use it. You don't need any tools but you need to allow about 15 minutes to put it together. Read more
