This has been the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. It needed a new motor within 9 months. The filter is really difficult to clean. "Just tap the dust out" Yeah right you spend ages bashing it as hard as you dare and the dirt just travels up and down the pleats in the filter. I tried several different brushes and the dust still didn't come out properly. This procedure has to be carried out frequently as the dust ends up getting trapped on the filter and doesn't go down into the bin. The hose and cord are not very flexible making them awkward to use, I was forever untwisting the cord. It has a hard floor setting but bits on the floor just get blown around and you're forever chasing them to pick them up, so gave up using it on this floor.
I have finally given up with this cleaner as the motor has started making weird noises and is giving out a strong smell of burning again. (8 months this time). I tried phoning the number given for problems, you do not return it to where ever you purchased it from, but got a message saying the number was temporarily unavailable!!! In case you're wondering I vacuum 2 rooms 2/3 times a week.
It is also very noisy. My mum has the same model. I didn't realise this when I got mine. When my daughter used mums cleaner (she was very kindly helping her nan out) she asked if there was something missing. When mum asked what she meant my daughter replied "where are the ear plugs?" Mum has also had to call out the engineer, within the guarantee. The on/off switch broke off and all he could do was glue it back together.

I have just bought this vacuum cleaner and am really pleased with it so far. I was happy how it cleaned my lounge carpet and then my laminate flooring. I was then amazed at how well it cleaned my bedroom carpet which is best described as fairly deep and close piled, with a velvety feel, grey/blue. I previously had a Dyson which basically floated over the top of the carpet, and always left cats hair and sock wool behind. It never looked clean unless I got down on my hands and knees and went over the whole carpet with a damp cloth. My new Electrolux was fantastic. It moved easily over the carpet, picking every scrap up and leaving a lovely 'just hoovered' look. Even my husband noticed which is unbelievable.
    Great!

Bought this Vacuum Cleaner when our twelve year old Dyson started to fail. Problems started straight away. It's very noisy and the hose constantly comes out of its housing when using the cleaner upright, meaning dust is sprayed around the area you have just cleaned. Worst of all the cleaner cuts power after around five minutes of use and will not operate again for up to an hour. It can then only be used for another minute before cutting out again. The manual states that this occurs when the cleaner over-heats, so I take it that this is a deliberate design feature and not a fault with my particular cleaner.

In addition, I agree with another reviewer with regards to emptying and cleaning. For a cleaner supposedly designed for pet owners, emptying the cylinder properly can take an age if there is cat hair mixed in with the dust. You will find yourself using all manner of improvised devices in an effort to dislodge the majority of what you have just vacuumed up from the upper area of the cylinder.

Stay away from this one, it's truly dreadful.

This is by far the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever owned, and every time I use it I become increasingly frustrated.

The worst problem is the suction, which is woeful, so pathetic that it renders the pet cleaning implement unusable because it doesn't have enough power to rotate the brush! Even when the vacuum cleaner has been emptied and the filter cleaned the suction isn't sufficient to cope with carpets of any nature, so as I follow the vacuum cleaner around I am forced to pick up the small pieces of fluff it leaves behind by hand. After cleaning a bathroom carpet on my hands and knees for 15 minutes using the nozzle I still needed to use selotape to remove the hair and fluff that it refused to pick up.

The filter seems to be the main cause of the loss of suction, instantly becoming clogged up with dirt and dust and requiring constant maintenance. Rather than being able to "tap" it clean as suggested in the manual, what you actually need to do is clean it out using a screwdriver or similar implement, since using a brush merely causes the dust and dirt to clog up on either end of the filter. The filter clogging up causes the suction to become so weak after cleaning an average sized living room or 2 bedrooms that you then need to clean the filter before carrying on - a painstaking task which takes a good 5 minutes.

I ended up getting so frustrated with the filter I tried using the cleaner without it. The suction was incredibly powerful and at last it seemed to be doing the job. However after a few minutes the machine started giving out a burning smell suggesting this wasn't the way forward after all!

Another complaint is the noise, which is just horrendous - so bad it leaves your ears ringing!
