4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent bagless, upright cleaner 25 July 2010
By J. S. Hardman TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I haven't used an upright vacuum cleaner for at least 25 years and have certainly never used a bagless vacuum cleaner before, so this was a bit of an experiment for me. The reason for trying this "Electrolux Z3278AZ Powerglide Pet 1800w Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner" was that my wife finds our existing vacuum cleaner heavy to use. I thought (wrongly as it turns out) that an upright might be the answer to that (which might have meant that I got to vacuum less often...).

However, this Electrolux does an excellent job. It certainly picks up far more than any of our recent vacuum cleaners (so much that I wonder how long our carpets will last), the bag-less design means that the suction doesn't drop as much, and emptying is a doddle. It has a good, long cable too, certainly longer than any of our other recent cleaners. It does have a strange tendency to tie itself in knots though. For anybody not worried about the weight and who has big open spaces to clean (rather than small rooms or rooms with lots of furniture or other clutter), I would certainly recommend this Electrolux cleaner.

On the other hand, it you have lots of small spaces, lots of clutter, lots of stairs, or not a lot of strength then this may not be for you.

Two other minor points. Firstly, as other reviewers have said, this cleaner pumps out a lot of hot air, so be prepared to vacuum in your scivvies, particularly on a hot day. Secondly, on our one at least, there is a join between two plastic components near the top rear of the handle that isn't quite smooth, so a sharp bit rubs against the palm of your hand.

Those are minor points though. On the whole, this is an excellent cleaner. For those with large open spaces I would definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good cleaner and well worth getting 23 July 2010
By Mr. Jon Forster VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Although I have had Electrolux hoovers before, this is the first bagless vacuum cleaner I have had and I was surprised at how much fluff/dirt had been picked up on just one run through the house. Perhaps this is just because you can see the dirt, rather than it being hidden away in a bag. I did notice that it left temporary wheel marks on the medium length carpet (as opposed to short length), but perhaps this was because the suction was so good.
It looks and feels high quality and the attachments were easy to fit and use, although the flex hose wasn't long enough to do one flight of stairs.
I found it heavy to lift, although light to use and considering its size, not too noisy.
It did a very good job picking up dog hairs even from an all wool carpet runner.

I would recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pet Hairs Begone 19 July 2010
By Runeweaver VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Well ive never owned an electrolux cleaner before, ive had dyson and miele, which are both great cleaners.
The Miele which i have at the moment is really good,so i thought this vacuum wouldnt be able to find anything to pick up after just cleaning the carpet with the miele, but i was wrong after a short time cleaning it had quite a large ball of cat hair rolling around in the dustbox,so i went all over the house with it,and even though it had been cleaned a couple of days before it had a full box by the time i had finished, only a little dust but alot of cat hair.
The cleaner is alittle loud and gets warm quick, but it really does the job on pet hairs, its well designed abit like the older model dysons and the dustbox is very easy to remove and empty.
I cant really say if the Arm & Hammer HEPA filter works as female cats dont smell like tom cats or some breeds of dog,but it is something to think about as its ment to prevent the smells from being released into the room as you clean.

Pros
Cleans pet hairs, that even good quality cleaners miss
Easy to assemble and remove dustbox and empty it.
Good range of tools
Solid build quality.

Cons
Alittle on the loud side and lets out alot of warm air(which isnt so fun when cleaning on an already hot day)

Overall a very good cleaner, which does the job its designed for very well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good suction and modes - but heavy 4 Nov 2010
By William Fross VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This vacuum cleaner is excellent: it has powerful suction, it is simple to use, and it has a variety of modes that are useful for different depths of carpet. It's simple to assemble out of the box, and does what it is supposed to do - it picks up hairs and other junk without trouble. It also comes with some accessories that are easy to use - you can detach the suction pipe from the main housing and use it to suck up dust in awkward corners, attaching different heads to narrow the pipe or improve its ability to detach troublesome dirt. It is based on the cyclone technology that Dyson made famous, so you don't have to worry about replacing bags and so on.

However, I have two issues, which make it a four rather than a five star buy. The first is its weight: after years of using a canister vacuum cleaner (where the bulk of the machine is in a little box on wheels that you pull around after you, leaving you to suck things up through the pipe), I just wasn't prepared for the weight of this upright cleaner. Considering its housing consists of relatively lightweight plastic, its innards are still sufficiently dense and weighty to make vacuuming something of a workout. I'm a guy and well over six foot - so I wouldn't get this for my grandmother. The second problem is that the cleaner does not work well on hard floors. It slips and slides, making it pretty useless on the laminate floor in my kitchen. Of course, a broom is better on a hard surface anyway, so it's not like I'm going to look for a replacement!

The hose constantly comes out whilst hoovering and you have to stop and push it back in approximately 4 or 5 times per room.

1.0 out of 5 stars Design is not that good
Like another reviewer, I find that when you use it as an upright the nozzle constantly comes out of the hole and then the machine spews dust back all over the floor. Read more
