I am so happy I bought this album. I am very new to the electroclash sound, but what I have heard really moves me. It's so exciting. This album seems to be a showcase for the style, and is mixed by the DJ credited with creating the scene. It's a double album with a theme for each disc. The first is called X-TREME and is really fierce from the opining beats right to the closing track. It'd be really unnecessary to dissect each tune for what it is, because the album stands up so well as a complete experience. This is the same for the second disc called PLASTIQUE which is a bit more laid back, funky and thoughtful but no less danceable, where the first CD is pure club energy. What's important is the overall sound; It's an amazing blend of old skool rave (complete with heavy hoover noise) 80's pop, punkish energy and very trashy, often meaningless or sexual lyrics, to the point of being quite campy. But with all the derivitive retro influence it manages to hit a note that makes it perfect for new millenium clubbing. It's friendly, it's crazy, it's infectious and it's just plain silly but you have got to move to it. It's just got a raw power that I have not felt from any movement in music for years and years. It might take you a couple of listens to really get it. Don't be afraid to turn up the volume. When it's quiet it sounds like some weird music from the 80's but when you start to pick it apart the production and effects are just mind-blowing and you realise that this is something very special and NOW. Fat bass-lines and funky beats, crazy vocals and samples and full of surprises. It's music to dance and shout out loud to. Try it.
