great adaptations of established songs.
Previewed all Electro Swing Volumes and this was the best.
Almost on a par with Electro Swing Republic.

An OK intro to the genre, but it's a continuous, gapless DJ/party mix 30 Jun. 2013
By S. McCandlish - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is a danceable and mostly entertaining collection, but much of it has previously appeared on compilations like this, and there was nothing to indicate that this is a continuous (gapless) DJ mix. While some people want such a thing for parties without a live DJ, or to just "fire and forget" in the car CD player or whatever, this style of presentation is the exact opposite of what almost all CD consumers want, which is separate tracks they can do with as they will. While this CD is technically divided into tracks that can be ripped one-by-one, the mix is blended and pretty much seamless; there are very few places where any of these tracks transition sharply enough to separate the tracks - they mostly just merge right into one another, overlapping. For collectors, these tracks can be found on other releases, but that's not really the point. CDs like this should clearly state on the front that they're gapless mixes.

As for the selections, they're probably the sort that most people are looking for - poppy, jazzy, attitudinal and about 122bpm (in the part I counted, anyway) for active but not exhausting dancing. None of the tracks are noodling, experimental stuff or excessively minimal and repetitive. If anything, the focus on actual songs vs. techno instrumentals for about half of this may be what a few people don't want, if they're looking for swing-'n'-bass or swing-house. Some of this is swing-house, but only about 1/3. None of it is swing-'n'-bass or swing-hop to my ear. One bit of it seems a little swing-step, and another swing-jungle; most of the last 1/5 is much heavier on the electro than the swing. This disc isn't fantastic as a gapless mix disc because the style isn't consistent enough, and veers from vocal swing songs with modern beats to house with a vague swing, lounge or jazz flavor to it.

Some of these numbers, like "Ginger Bread Man" by Dirty Honkers, "Dixie Biscuit" by Tape Five and "Vive le Swing" by In-Grid, are really over-played at this point, like electro-swing equivalents of "Blue Monday".

I don't mind owning this, as it's arguably better than a couple of other DJ mixes I have, but I would much, much rather have had separate tracks, and if I'd known that it's a gapless mix, I would not have paid for it, since I can get free mixes of this sort directly from DJs' Soundcloud pages and personal sites.

Vol. 3 is the must have cd for the Electro Swing partys, and especally in the car on long trips.
I love a few songs 17 Dec. 2012

I originally bought this album because I'd heard one of the songs in spin class and really liked it. I don't love the whole album, but there are some fun songs on it that keep you moving!
