* BGP's critically acclaimed jazz and funk classics series reaches its third instalment with a look at one of their favourite labels - Stax. Their aim is to bring you the super-rare and usually unreissued albums on CD with notes and incredible mastering for fantastic sound. The five albums in the third series are all obscurities from within the mighty label's catalogue, and are all sought after by collectors.
* Although Mississippi-born Ernie Hines made his first recordings in Chicago for the USA label, it was when he returned south that he was signed to Stax's We Produce label by Al Bell. He recorded this one album for the We Produce label under the supervision of Tom Nixon, who was then producing Rufus Thomas' big dance hits.
* The musicians on the record include the MGs, the Bar- Kays, the Malaco Rhythm Section and the Movement, Isaacs Hayes backing band. The album is today sought after for the funky `Our Generation' which was sampled by Pete Rock on his classic golden era hip hop cut `Let's Straighten It Out'. This may give a false impression of the album, which overall is a classic of Southern soul, from the outstanding cover of `A Change Is Gonna Come' to the spine-tingling title track.

Ernie Hines is an interesting artist as well as talented,versatile and unequivocal in his knowledge of how to effectively deliver a "hook". as an artist, ernie is underated but, with "ELECTRIFIED", has emerged with a consensus winner in the anals of musical prowess. Electrified may not be registering at the top of the music charts but,that's not because of Ernie Hines,THE folks whom consider themselves serious audiophile's and collector's of must have's,must have "ELECTRIFIED" in their personal music libraries and/or archives, without it my friend, your collection is "INCOMPLETE". I originally purchased this cd for the title cut however and consequently,i have discovered another gem hidden among the tall chords, one that was originally performed by a young and talented group from memphis,tenn with the uncanny inherently soulful "jabbo" on lead and, as a member of the "tempsational" TEMPREES but, with ernie's rendition of,"your love is all i need(to see me through)",unquestionably accentuate's and showcase the genius and enormous talent of Ernie Hines as, not just another fly by night one punch swooner but, with this secret weapon as his knockout "uppercup", it's palpable to this humble affectionado of the verve and vibes, ernie has become the top "contender",especially with the aforementioned as my new ernie hines favorite,as well as, the heralded "ELECTRIFIED"! all together,completely fills the void in my musical archive's,thanks ernie. ty blue
