I'm a first-year physics student, and I found this book to be really helpful, but not as a main textbook. I used Grant&Phillips' Electromagnetism as a main book, from which I learnt the concepts, but often I looked up the proofs in Duffin, as they were usually clearer and simpler. (eg Dipole E-field) I bought this before Grant&Phillips, and I found this book a bit confusing and overwhelming.
One thing which is especially good with this book, though, is the end-of-chapter Comments, which explain some of the more interesting, out-of-syllabus things which you always want to ask but never remember to...

I love this book. It describes the contence of my course (first year physics at Oxford) well. Only 2 chapters were not on my sylabus. I can understand everything I read in this book. Everything is well explained. I, my lecturer and my tutor recomend it.

Review for E&M text (Duffin) 23 May 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
A reasonably good text for undergraduates but one needs a certain amount of patience to go through the lengthy explanantions in certain chapters. It should be just an early guide to some ideas on electicity and magnetism, no more. Intermediate level readers should then proceed to refer to Milford and Christy and then to Classical Electodynamics(Jackson).
