Review

"[This book gives] information in a concise and accurate way and presents most of the information in 'worked example' form. This allows you to get your teeth into the subject without having to first of all wade through lots of over elaborate theory. An excellent 'dip' and learn book."

Excellent 14 Jan 2008
Format:Paperback
I found this book very useful in my second year of electronics. There are worked examples and well worded descriptions. It doesnt go in to great depth on any subject but did give enough information for me to learn and understand easily. I recomend this book to anyone studying at the moment.

This book is one of the successors to the excellent checkbook series of books for electrical engineering students.
It give information in a concise and accurate way and presents most of the information in 'worked example'form . This allows you to get you teeth into the subject without having to first of all wade through lots of over elaborate theory.
An excellent 'dip' and learn book.

There are a lot of electronics books that cover theory. Anyone interested in the subject needs at least one of these. As far as they go, Bird's is reasonably good. It covers just about everything required to get the most out of other, more pragmatic texts on the subject like 'The Art of Electronics' by Horowitz and Hill, for instance. However, after a while the 'exercise and answer' format does become laborious. But perhaps the biggest shorting is that transistors aren't given enough coverage.
