When I was a small boy I had a neighbour buddy, who was gifted musically, he used to put a storybook picture of photo on his piano and play music to the picture. Neal Schon's music reminds me of it. Neal makes a picture or image in your head with each composition. E.g : Neal takes you on a whistle stop tour of the urban sprawl which is "NYC", the guitar soloing on this track is superb. Next example is "Highway 1" laid back smooth Jazz. then on "Gypsy Dance" you are taken away to a Gypsy camp fire at night, Neal has all the technique, or should I say "textures" in the book, as he is an Artist, painting scenes on canvass with his guitar.
"My Past Life" you can see you own past life going before your eyes as Neal weaves his guitar magic, the backing musicians compliment him so well, having an influence but not overpowering, this is Neal's show.
How this guy is overlooked ( Bill Nelson of Bebop Deluxe is another) when you talk of guitar greats is difficult to fathom. But when he joined Santana as a 15yr old, Carlos must have been a bit worried. People say Neal Schon is influenced by this period, but you never know maybe Carlos Santana hijacked Neal Schon's style a bit? Stranger things have happened! BUY IT!

This album is a double cd with an extreamely melodic sound with songs like NYC and night spirit,it shows the amazing talent of the guitarist form the far under-rated band JOURNEY,it also has music of a bluesy-rocky feel to a melodic jazz feel.I particularly like the track Medicine man.
A relaxing album when you just want to take things easy and at your own pace.
A definite buy if you enjoy pure guitar music and no lyrics

Lyrical and burning fusion music 26 Sep 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
An artful blend of fusion, synth and world music styles. The best fusion guitar I have ever heard. It made me realize a lot of those searing and soaring leads from early '70s Santana albums were Neal Schon's chops, not Carlos Santana's. If you like Larry Carlton, John McGloughlin, and Carlos Santana, or either of Neal Schon's previoius bands, Journey and Santana, then you will find Electric World to be an undiscovered, gleamingly- polished diamond. 2 CD, all instrumental.

Not What I Expected 31 Oct 2003
By grady nubbins - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I have always liked Neal's playing. He seems to be different than your run of the mill guitar star. Sure, he can play fast and heavy, but he has always been more musical than most others. That being said, I don't know why I was as surprised as I was. I still expected much more overt flash than I got at first listen.
Its there, but in different ways. His talent as a producer and composer is very evident in this collection. Spectacular soundscapes. Very interesting noises and tones. Strong compositions. Good, solid, inventive guitar work as well. Very highly recommended. A rare 5star cd.

This is really a top-notch recording. 20 Jan 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

My brother gave me this for my birthday a couple years ago. This recording is really top-notch, 2-CD recording, although I guess I've played CD 2 more than CD 1: "One and Only" is a great instrumental ballad!

Great Jazz/Rock Fusion CD 12 Jun 1998
By kdevries@nidlink.com - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Schon's playing is a tasty as ever on this CD. Although not as heavy as his day's with Journey, this CD offers more melody that the average guitarist can supply. Worth buying if you like melodic guitar and chops.
