Product Description
Electric Wiring Domestic is the definitive guide to home wiring to professional standards. This makes it ideal for serious DIY work, especially for letting or resale, and essential reading for professionals who are not trained electricians, undertaking the wiring work involved in plumbing, central heating, security alarms, television and aerial installation, and telephone installation. The handy format and clear, straightforward text have also made this book popular as a quick reference source for electricians.

Electric Wiring Domestic has been in print continuously since 1940. The twelfth edition has been updated in line with the latest versions of the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671:2001) and includes a new chapter on bathroom wiring and a useful Appendix covering basic electrical facts and formulae.

Brian Scaddan is a Chief Examiner and Honorary Member of City and Guilds. He has over 30 years' experience in Further Education and professional training, and is now Director of Brian Scaddan Associates, Engineering Training Consultants. 3.0 out of 5 stars Technical Handbook, 26 Jul 2005

Ideal if you are doing some major rewiring and you want to check you are doing it properly and complying with building regs. The explanation of circuit breakers, for example, is thorough and you get a clear idea of the different types and how they should be used.
I would only buy this as companion to something like "The Which Book of Wiring and Lighting". If I only had a straightforward bit of wiring to do, like some new lights, the latter book is far more accessible.

1.0 out of 5 stars Electric Wiring : Domestic, 14 Aug 2006
By DG Powell "DG Powell" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is ideal for modifications to current installations where someone already has some appreciation of what is required, i.e. is not a complete novice. The number of typographical errors consign this book to be used for cursory reference and not to be used a basic reference - and even then do not rely upon the figures stated. The next re-print must remove these errors as a top priorty.

4.0 out of 5 stars A path through the swamp, 21 Jan 2004
This book provides a good overview of a vast subject area and is clearly aimed at the more ambitious DIYer. Although some basic knowledge of electrical principles is assumed the content is practical and sensible; there are plenty of clear diagrams, and all the major issues are covered from high-level planning through to low-level installation details. This is a book that boils the complex IEE regs down to the salient points for a straightforward domestic installation. My only criticisms would be that the prose is sometimes a little vague and there are some annoying typos.

Whilst I will still need to seek further advice in some more complex areas, at least now I’ll know what questions to ask, and will hopefully understand the replies! Overall this book is a solid starting point if you’re considering rewiring your house, which is exactly what I wanted.

Not as comprehensive as previous editions - most, if not all the extracts from the IEE tables have been stripped out, there are lots of typos and some technical errors.
